ok.

i've got this Product Key on 2 comps - my mom's, and mine. I've reformatted both enough to the point of no longer being able to activate this key.

one problem:

Microsoft "can't" help me, because i need to buy another product key or something, since it's on two computers.

how in the bloody heck do i get out of this....is there a way?

:(

Buy another *legal* copy of XP and don't install it on more than one computer.

So, let me if I have the facts correct here:

1. You illegally installed a copy of Windows on a computer for which you didn't have a license.

2. Microsoft's system of production activation which is designed to prevent thieves like you from getting very far has finally caught up with you.

3. Now you are upset because you can no longer continue your practices of software piracy?

Solutions are as follows:
1. Pay up
2. Grow up
3. Shut up

You say: ok, you flaming fool.
I say: Wow, name calling, good intro, I have very high expectations from the rest of your reply.

You say: i bought an OEM from Newegg.com, like a year ago.
I say: And now you believe you can run around like the magic Windows fairy, installing a single user license key on to as many computers as you see fit?

You say: i know [H] doesn't like warez, and i'm not stupid.
I say: Then you should have been expecting a few responses pointing out that THIS IS software piracy.

You say: now, dont be an ass.
I say: An ass you say? I can understand how pointing out what a fool you are may very well embarras you and make me look like an ass....oh wait, now I am just being an ass.

You say: i'm tired of people thinking their all that
I say: You know, my 14 yr. old brother uses that exact same saying....interesting coincidence.

You say: P.S. i'm no theift, see above. things like this piss me off.
I say: Where in your ramblings above do you have anything that indicates you aren't a thief? You bought an OEM copy from Newegg, but then you admit to installing it on not only your computer, but using the same license key to install it on your mother's computer. This is stealing. Does your mother understand she could be fined and/or jailed for this mistake of yours?

Have a nice day.

^Easy there Mr. RIAA. What did he steal?? What did he take without asking?? NOTHING, he legally bought a CD and used it on more then one computer. If you bought a retail copy of a game and they told you not to install it on more then one computer would you?? If I own two computers then theres no reason why both cant have the game installed. Seeing as I own a Retail Copy of Windows XP PRO I will read what it says right below the CD KEY:

"Dont Lose This Product Key!
You must use it every time you install this software"

Isn't this suggesting that this software will be installed more then once?? Think about that before you start waving your "im grown up cause I legally buy every piece of software" wand.

Don't want to take a political side here, but to set the fax straight, you perhaps might want to re-read that End User License Agreement that you probably clicked right through during your last install of XP; particular this portion:

1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Microsoft grants you the following rights
provided that you comply with all terms and conditions of
this EULA:

* Installation and use. You may install, use, access,
display and run one copy of the Product on a single
computer, such as a workstation, terminal or other device
("Workstation Computer"). The Product may not be used
by more than two (2) processors at any one time on any
single Workstation Computer. You may permit a maximum
of ten (10) computers or other electronic devices (each
a "Device") to connect to the Workstation Computer to
utilize the services of the Product solely for File and
Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote
access (including connection sharing and telephony
services). The ten connection maximum includes any
indirect connections made through "multiplexing" or other
software or hardware which pools or aggregates
connections. Except as otherwise permitted by the
NetMeeting, Remote Assistance, and Remote Desktop
features described below, you may not use the Product
to permit any Device to use, access, display or run other
executable software residing on the Workstation Computer,
nor may you permit any Device to use, access, display,
or run the Product or Product's user interface, unless
the Device has a separate license for the Product.
That way you won't look so ignorant.

Ok. Let me make this clear. If you own one license to Windows XP, or any other product that limits it's use to one pc and no more, do not come here asking for help on how to circumvent that. What you do is your own business, but don't expect help to get around license agreements or in this case Windows activation, from this forum.

It's very clear in the rules. (http://www.hardforum.com/announcement.php?s=&forumid=75)

i know [H] doesn't like warez, and i'm not stupid.

You obviously know this is against the rules, so I don't see why you asked in the first place.
