After a couple of months, windows XP does not make the monitor go to standby anymore. I have it set to 5 minutes in power options; however, the monitor just never goes to standby.
Any ideas?

So, when you goto control panel, then open power options, it says "Turn off Moniter after 5 mins"... but when you wait over 5 min's it never turns off?
First thing i would try is set the options to "turn off mointer never", then apply, then "turn off mointer after 5 mins" and click apply again. See if that works.
If not, then all i can think of is two things.
Eaither some piece of software is messing it up (i find this unlikely though).
Or your graphic card is messed up.
from the point were turn off mointer worked,,, to the point where it does'nt work.... did you update your graphic card drivers? If so this might be to blame. So you might want to see if there are any updates, or try and roll back the driver.
Sorry i could'nt be of more help.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I haven’t changed a thing since it last worked. First I thought I was my display profiles and they are overwriting the changes I make within my account (power user). So I log in as an administrator and made sure I set the monitor standby to 5 minutes and resaved my display profiles.
It works fine when log in as an administrator but it doesn’t want to work with the power user account. It worked before; this is why it is making me go errrrrrrrrrrr!! It may just be a corrupted user account and I will have to delete the user profile. However, I have to back it up my Halo stuff first.
I guess I could just press the power switch :)
