Long story short, my friend is offering to trade me his 1x512MB PC4000 Corsair XMS Pro (yes, w/ leds) for my 2x256 KHX PC3200 along with a little bit of cash.

I was wondering, would my UNMODDED 8rda+ rev 2.1 (NB has a Vantec Iceberq, and SB has a copper heatsink that came with Iceberq package) overclock to? 230 fsb maybe? And would an unlocked barton 2800 go to 11x230?

Full system details are in my sig. Thanks

He's trying to rip you off, especially if you have BH-5 memory KHX3200... AMD systems thrive on tight timihgs, which the BH-5 can easily accomplish... You can probably hit 230 fsb 2-2-2-5 timings (2-2-2-11 for nforce2) with enough voltage. Keep your sticks... Those LEDs are not worth it... The timings are horrible as is..

Mine are CH5. And I've had trouble getting anything above 200fsb AND prime95 stable. I didn't crank the ram voltage to the max though... but I don't think my board can give too much power to the vdimm anyways.

look at my CH5s in my sig and my other thread ;). But dont get PC4000 because it'll default cas3... and you'd want tightest at cas2 especially for the amd systems.

you think the PC4000 XMS can run at pc3200 speeds with timings of 2-2-2?

honestly, i'd say that's a longshot =\

for amd systems, go with ram that gives you tight timings, p4's can get away with high mhz crappy timings ram.
