My local computer store is having a deal on Samsung harddrives, are they any good? I have one that has lived through 2 computers and its only just got a few bad sectors. Whats your opinion?

I have only used Samsung Harddrives and adore them.
their return policy is ok, but the tech support sucks.
But the good news there is you will probably never need it. And they are quiet as can be. :D

Yes I love Samsung drives. Especially the new SpinPoints with the fluid dynamic bearings, slim profile design, and the 3 year warranty. I use them all the time in system builds with no problems as of yet.

Which Brand of Hard Drive is Most Reliable? (http://www.storagereview.com/php/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=BrandMostReliable)
its often not the make or model but its sordid past :p

Pro's:
Quiet
Fast
About same cost as others (Maxtor, Seagate, WD)
Some models available with 8mb buffer
3 year warantee (other manufacturers are only one year now!?)
Con's:
ATA 100, not 133

and as soon as someone actually demonstrates an advantage derived from the 133MB/s burst rate
over the 100MB/s burst rate in a benchmark, it would be a "con"
till then its still just hype :p
the interface speed has nothing to do with the sustained transfer
the or the access time, it simply applies to how fast the cache transfers the data once its filled,
in short for benchmarks and real world use,
it makes very very little to no difference
a larger cache if available will have far more impact (http://www.storagereview.com/php/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=BufferSizes)
