UT2k4 generally received very high ratings but isn't it just mindless killing fest with no tactic? Agg I can't decide..

I don't know why people are so stuck on tactics. Can't a game be fun if it is not tactical. Though ut 2k4 requires teamwork it is no rs 3. But utk 2k4 is damn fun and requires skill. You can't tell me you don't hav eto have skills to fly the raptor or use the lightning gun.

yeah there's some tactics in ut2k4. i mean there doesn't have to be but there can be. like in onslaught, assault, CTF

death match and the sort are still mindless

Kortiz

Definitely need team work in onslaut and assault....

just like any other game out there with mutliplayer. the only difference is the pace is about 10x faster.

no tactics in deathmatch?

the best tacticians in fps games period are 1 v 1 deathmatch players. anyone that deathmatch is for the mindless imho, sucks at these games and should play the sims

depends on what you like. I played the far cry demo and was bored. Doesnt seem to bring much of anything new to the table other than good grpahics, but I think UT is just as good (and don't give me all this crap about "but there's SOOOOO much foliage, do I give a crap? if I want scenery i'll go for a walk outside) BF:V I just got done playing, and I was on teamspeak with some guys for a while and it was the best gaming experience I've ever had. However, the game might not even work on your machine :(. Once they patch it that game will be a massive landmark in computer gaming. UT2K4 is full of action. You'll be amazed by the amount of teamwork going on in a public server on any onslaught maps. Anybody who says the game takes no tactics/skill is a complete arse, and probably has yet to win a single match. I'd say UT2k4 is a sure thing that you'll like it.

I have always been a big UT fan so perhaps I am biased, but UT2004 is great! Yes, there are some bugs but thats the great thing about it is you can expect them to be fixed and for a ton of FREE features to be offered up and a ton of great community development.

I have only played the SP version Demos from Far Cry and it looks great and I enjoyed it. Thats all I have to say about that:).

BFV, its EA Games. Just like everything else they've released they taken some that could be great ran it threw there machine in pinched off a turd! You can expect terrible support, and if your lucky one patch.

unreal tournamnet 2004 has single handedly got me back into gaming. it is plain and simply fun. and what a value, you get all the 2003 stuff, and then 2 new play modes that really make the game 10x's better ... and all this for like only $30

UT2K4 has also pretty much sucked me back into gaming. I used to only play PC games once a month at a free lan event I run, well now every night since the game has come out I just absolutely have to play every night. Onslaught is awesome, sometimes I feel like I gotta do everything in some maps though, I can't wait to try this out with a clan, or at a lan party. I've yet to play Assault, CTF, Invasion, or Double Domination which all look like lots of fun. I didn't even bother to touch UT2K3 so I'm not sure exactly how much new content is in 2K4, but I love it. DVD SE version all the way!! :D

i have BF:V, and UT2k4 SE.

yes the SE.

i havent played UT at all since i installed it, and BF:V. im so involved with vietnam its silly. finally got on a good server where people can actually FLY THE HUEY RIGHT, and doing LZ landings with others and taking points made my day today. all i get from ut is a candy coated mindless killing field.

i got all summer to play both of em, and now that i have a gig of ram, i can play both smoothly and at ful specs. :)

^^ Written with a complete lack of experience.

And you must be referring to EA's 7or 8 patches for BF 1942, which has turned it into a near perfect game.

Anyway, my vote is definitely BF:VN.

No deathmatches are generally not very strategic. Itīs just about learning the ins and out of each levels all power ups and such and be fast and accurate really.

If you want tactics try IL 2 FB. That is like playing chess. Probably because of that I suck so much at it :D

Well i just installed ut2k3 again, and played some if ut2k4(wich im pickin up today)is like ut2k3 then it has my vote. And for tactics i love um, AA is prolly one of the most tactical games i have played, along with RS, but going around and blowin the fsk out peeps is still fun

BF:V = shit
UT2k4 = Muiltiplayer mayhem and ownage.
FarCry = Best Single player I seen since release of Half-Life.

anyone can try to argue on any of those but Im basing this off me owning all 3 and what I have seen on polls and votes. BF:V is just a piss poor game which EA let the gamers beta test but pay for it lol.

UT2k4 well this game has just about everything for everyone, if you can handle Unreal shit and just enjoy fast spawn kill die your set.

with FarCry all I can say is Holy crap. Its got a great story, monsters and lets not forget about those gfx. I say FarCry is a must own for anyone who is a heavy gamer, and anyone who is looking for something to give them a little fun.

thats my 2 cents!

BF:V - seems like a good mod for bf:42 with slightly improved graphics, however DC is still better

UT2k4: loved the demo, bought it, got kinda bored.. i can always play DM (ut, q3, hldm, ut2k3, utk24) anyof em i can play and have fun. Assault mode honestly blows IMO, and Onslaught was fun on Torlan and the demo but im getting sick of it fast.. i jsut think its a good game for dm but nothing else... CTF was better on UT, the other modes..are fun but i get bored fast

Far Cry - fun multiplayer nothing too special.. (dm is fun with friends in a 4 player console fps kinda way) and assault mode is cool to sneak around find hiding spots etc..

SP is really good, alot better that i expected it would be people saying it is better than waht hl2 and d3 will be are wierd and hyped. It is good tho.

all these games are meh... or mabye im just getting sick of video games in general i dont kno

UT2K4 is fun ... but I really prefer BF:V right now ... the eyecandy value isn't as high, but I've had the most fun evar running people down with the H.Gunship in BF:V :)

Battlefield Vietnam - great gameplay, great music

military vehicles are very well done and its very interesting flying any of the jets or helicopters available

jungle foilage adds a new type of gameplay because you can effectively cloak yourself by laying prone in thick growth.

the game has taken a lot of hard knocks because of perceived bugs, glitches and so forth but in playing the game every night since I picked it up - I've had none of the problems everybody complains about and I do feel its because people are trying to play the game with substandard hardware and computers that are not conducive to gaming (drivers not updated, bios settings not optimized, low system resources, etc.,) and as a result suffer the results.

In fact, Battlefield Vietnam has been one of the most polished releases I've played and I've had the misfortune of games such as Planetside, Star Wars Galaxies and so forth.

In all honesty, the instruction manual was the worst I've seen.............

BF:V = :D Really good, I have only one complaint, the M60 is really cheap.

Far Cry = Ok. Pretty, but way over-rated.

UT2k4 = Good, but could be better. I'm not a big fan of the series though, so that could be bias.

sector
03-29-2004, 11:12 PM
Yes, the M60 is starting to turn into the PKM argument all over again.

I can't wait to see the mods that get released for BF:V. The enhancments in the engine are capable of bringing so much more to the gameplay.

And as far as gameplay, there's nothing like playing in a twelve hour organized game of DC w/ Teamspeak via 21stCenturyWarfare, and the BF:V equivalent is looking to improve the formula.

A patch or two and this game will be outstanding.

UT2004: I can't tolerate this crackfest for more than ten minutes. Onslaught is fun, but not something I can play for hours. And the deathmatch?! Forget about it.

Far Cry: Haven't played more than the demo.

All I know about BF:V is that I hated BF1942. Add that to all the bugs I'm hearing about and I won't be trying it out.

I love Far Cry. I haven't touched MP and haven't heard much good about it, but single player is absolutely excellent. First, it's challenging. Second, it allows you to approach most situations from multiple angles. You end up making up your tactics as you go and trying things many different ways before you find something that works. With most games this would be frustrating, but since you can do things so many ways it feels fresh no matter how many times you do something. Plus, there's great AI to add to the challenge and freshness. Overall, the game just feels "right" for some reason. Oh, and it looks great even at mid to low detail settings.

UT2k4 is also excellent. It's a great deal at $30 and you practically get three games in one. First, you get UT2k3 with a few new maps and some new minor modes. Then you get Onslaught mode which is done nearly perfectly. All the vehicles are balanced well and you can challenge most of them even on foot. Not all the maps are perfect, but there're 10 of them so you should be able to find one that you like. Lastly, you get Assault, which is my favorite. There's only six maps, but they're all just about perfect. Mothership isn't perfect, but it's still fun. The rest are just excellent.

The best bet is UT2k4 if you ask me.

UT! Got me playing games again. Then again I will be trying to play through SP farcry and will probably get BF:V when a few patches come out. Not usual three games come out i want to play. Like I said UT pulled me back in.

But they should be great. farcry i havent really played but will at least try and play through based on feedback and the mere fact that it is purty. I bought a gig of ram partly because i feel I've seen the future and the future is farcry. lol... This game is one of those examples where you sit around wating for x game to come along like HL2 and the delays come, and other games steal the "this is next-gen" thunder. I think many dont have all three to compare so I feel like I can say I just dont see much replay in the farcry. I am frantically trying to improve my UT skills so my working ass can compete. Little bit most days and few hours on the weekends... daytime of course. ;)

BF1942 I bought early and those that could put up with its shit managed to really pull away from me skill wise. I just cant play crappy coded games. By the time I found out most could play it without getting a migraine headache anymore, other people were so good. I usually am not the best but can compete. I got left in the dust. Spend 5 minutes walking somehwere just to have a plane drop a bomb on me like a big bullseye :D I spend alot of money on hardware so sluggishness kind of makes the skin crawl. My .02

Only played the UT2004 demo and not the full retail game. Logically I should probabaly say UT2004 but I have to say Far Cry. It has the right blend of realism and action and wide open environments that actually look good. Sadly BFV and UT2004 environments look like warmed over oatmeal in comparison. Also they didn't get the vehicles right in UT. Halo, ducking stones -- no boulders, did a much better job. The vehicles are too delicate, the perspective too zoomed out, and generally don't allow enough team members on board to foster a higer level of cooperation.

The vehicles in UT 2004 are perfect. They are not too uber powerful for ground troops, but if you have skills you can really reak havic with them. 3 People can get in the Hellbender and they all have guns. That is a lot of teamwork for a vehicle.
