Here it is, my (or my dad's actually).... Apple 2g+. I believe that he paid $1000 for it in 1986. Im not positive on the year though.

Monocrome monitor (which hooks up via composit / RCA style connection), dual 5 1/4" drives, built in keyboard.

The system can display a very limited number of colors if you hook it up to a regular tv. Also.. the monitor has a handle on the back of it for easy transport to lan parties :D .

And here are the internals. Note the WOODEN powersupply

So....Which one of those chips is the processor?

What do you mean wooden psu? It looks like a copper to me.

dcswd

im not sure what the bell key does...

yeah.. the powersupply does look copper, but I can assure you that its made out of wood :)

The motherboard is a bit longer than what the picture shows, but the part you cant see looks the same as the part you can.

Im not sure where the processor is... I can tell you where the ram is though. See that short ribbon cable in the bottom left. There is that white line drawn on the motherboard. Well those 8 or so chips that are next to the horrizontal line are the ram. I know this because the word "RAM" is printed next to them. lol

I agree, something that old's untouchable. Find a dead one somewhere and mod that instead :D

I got one of these from my school thinking the same thing....and I got it home and hit up eBay and they only get like $10, and thats complete (I guess the mouse adds some vaule to it)

I would mod it....maybe i'll put that 800 celleron board to good use :D

edit :

HOLY :eek:eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2791930828&category=4610)

but mine doesn't have half those goodies

My school was using an old AIIE for experiment stuff in the Tech lab until it vanished about 2 years ago, I really have to see what they did with the old junker. Also, over the summer I was able to go into one of the PC storage closets (I got my now dead but free P133 there) and there were SHELVES of old Macs and stuff, I wonder if they want to get rid of some of that stuff.

thanks for the ebay link. Although it might be cool to mod, I know I wont. My dad wants to sell it now lol. We still have the box it came in, and all of the manuals too.

The processor is one of the cards on the back ;)

Remember our old 386s' ?

well, this is the same :)

My dad had an original apple II with all the bells and whistles and a radiation green monitor. I remeber playing with it when I was really young (2-3). Unfortunately when I was about 13 we moved and my mom made my dad throw it out. What a shame.

It won't fetch what an orginal Apple II (like in that auction) would, but your Apple II plus should be able to fetch around $100, since you have all the boxes and manuals.

damn that thing must break what, like 50Hz? sexy

2.15MHz, if memory serves.

Quick rundown of the early Apple line, from value high to low:
Brand new Apple I kit
Completeed Apple I kit
Apple II
Apple IIE w/ Apple 2GS upgrade (done at factory, very few did this)
Apple II Plus
Apple II Platinum (not really made of Platinum)
Apple 2GS
Apple IIE Euro
Apple IIE
(those last two are reversed if you're in europe)

Apple IIEs are as common as dirt.

I actually pulled out the PSU, and it feels metal. Scence mine is a IIe I don't feel bad about modding it (plans already in action)

Wonder if there is a way to find out hte actual MHZ on screen?

If you're thinking those are CPU clock multipliers, they're not. Almost all processors until the Intel 80486DX2 ran at the same speed as the bus.

the emulator (apple II) lets you "oc" the system.

According to...
http://www.apple-history.com/frames/body.php?page=gallery&model=aIIe

There is no apple 2g+ (you probably got the name wrong)
Also is says your processor is a "CPU: MOS Technology/SynerTek 6502", so look for a chip with the number 6502 on it and you will ahve found the processor.

the proc is on the motherboard... that is an Apple II...

the card on the left is a memory expansion card

the psu is definately metal i am 100% sure of this

i still have my loaded Apple IIe, put 32kb ram in that sucker! oc'd it to like 4mhz iirc... when you used to OC by changing crystals :D

had a 300bps hays internal modem, joystick card, dual 5.25" floppy card, 3.5" floppy card, scsi hd card, the works... was fun times :D

I remember my dad telling me about the rad 8086 he had in the 80's... cost about 6 grand for the computer itself. It ran at a whopping 8 MHz, and he obtained some "renegade" software to OC it to 8.8 MHz, and the difference was so incredibly noticable it wasn't funny . That cracks me up. Computers running 200-300 times faster are common place now... haha

What's worse is any program that used a simple method of timing would then run WAY WAY WAY too fast, and you'd die in games before you had .5seconds to live. :]

I used to love playing with my Laser128 till I screwed up the kb trying to reassemble it.

Castle Wolfenstien (the very original) was my favorite game, you could play that game forever, considering the maps were generated randomly!

Geez the oldest comp I still have is a 386 Compaq that weighs to much to bother dragging it out of the bottom of my closet.

Why would he have held on to that comp for all this time? They wont be worth much as there are piles of them still around, and I do literally mean piles. lol.

To clear up a mini-mystery, the "bell key" aka ctrl-G makes the computer go beep.

Really though, that's all it was there for.

Let's say you wanted to gut the Apple II and put a PC motherboard inside. Would there be a way to still use that Apple II keyboard with the Intel PC guts?

Turn those floppy disks into slot loading DVDRW's.

Remove the screen and replace with LCD. Remove innards and go all out.

Eh, it was a bump that serves SOME purpose to the modding community... It wasn't a "omg dude wicked mod lol".

Nothing wrong with that.

I wonder what interface that KB used... I bet it's nothing that works on today's busses. Just use all the keys on a current board and slide the new one in.

Where's the Thread Necromancer pic? Damn.

Depending on how those old keyboards acted, it may be possible. If Apple just slapped a PC keyboard onto those old things and added / removed som buttons, it might work. If it's actual apple coded hardware, you might need a pic.
