hdd space, making a small emulator machine, plays all older stuff. Nice mod project i'm doing... anyway. I have some SMALL drives, 2gig that i wanted to use. But if XP takes 1.5 gig, and space is an issue in this project then i may have to get a larger drive, i just can't spend money right now.

Well, XP Lite (http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html) lets you strip down the XP install size.

However, it will probably still clock in with some heftiness. Can't you just use an earlier version of windows?

I have XP Pro currently installed on a 1.5GB HD. I have around 50MB free. That's after using XPLite.

EDIT: I have WMP9, and the Catalyst drivers installed on that, as well.

sigmend you installed with 64mb of ram? YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING, even with everything disabled it runs like $hit, so dont post lies to other users since it creates confusion.

XP can run just fine on 64MB of ram, anything lower and it's slow but 64 is fine. I had a whole lab of 400Mhz systems running that way and the bump from 32-> 64 made all the difference in the world.

Windows xp simply stated, is a Memory pig.. Ive seen Pentium 2 200 mhz's fly on xp simply due to haveing 256 mb installed on them. If you can get away with having more than 128 ram installed (on a pentium 1 even) I think your good to go.

not trying to be a *nix zealot but you will have much more success trimming down a linux/bsd install than windows

use linux instead. ive seen nice frontends for linux so u can just go straight into the mame setup instead of having an system. i'm pretty sure your not going to be using any other programs on it anyway right? p.s. i'm building one too that plays mame stuff it has xp but a better setup though. here's a nice site. http://cmdrtaco.net/jubei/jubei.shtml
