Can anyone help me out with this? I want to connect to a computer on the internet and im not sure if the computer on the other end has to have certain ports opened up on their router. I also wanted to know what the differences is between the remote assistance, remote desktop and remote desktop web connection is. Thanks.

Umm.... What are you trying to accomplish by connecting to this other system?

Port 3389 needs to be opened and for the rest of your questions, just click the link for the description where you enable RDP.

Remote Desktop on Win XP Pro only allows one connection at a time, whereas terminal server can have many more.

Heres the situation, Im running a server on Win2k3, and I have Remote Desktop Enabled, and I also have the Remote Desktop for WEB installed. I can connect via the WEB with more than 1 computer. In otherwords, my 2 other computer can connect to the server at the same time under the same account name. Is there a way to limit this to just 1 at a time, or can this only be done when using the Remote Desktop for XP and NOT the WEB verison.

Am I missing out on any functionality by not using the Terminal Server and instead using Remote Desktop and Remote Desktop for the WEB? Thanks

Are you trying to limit it to one connection at a time or limiting one login per account name?

Functionality is basically the same, just limited in XP to one connection at a time.

I am trying to limit the connection of the Client to the Server per USER. I have it set up to limit it only to one connection now, but I would like it if I could provide Administration access all the time, and limit my power user to only one connection at a time.

They will be connecting via Remote Desktop and Remote Desktop WEB, but get this....i am testing it on my spare clients, and both can connect at the same time under the same user (granted I allow max 2 connections under the Terminal Services Configuration) on both the integrated Remote Desktop and Remote Desktop WEB. So I guess, functionality wise...there is no difference for me some how.

Or are you talking about functionality is limited to 1 concurrent connection at a time when your running a XP Pro Server and connecting with a WEB client whether it be XP Home or Pro?

In 2k3 you can have either 2 admin connections(I do not believe there is a way of changing the amount of admin connections) and 0 client accounts or client accounts and 0 admin accounts.

In other words you can have either admin only or client(terminal services) only, but you can't have both.

Or turn on the full terminal service experiance, and then you can do a whole lot more, but you will need a license server for that.
