Yeah knoppix is great. I plan on having my girlfriend try it out when I'm home over midterm break. She is interested in switching to linux, but she's not ready to fully convert yet. It's good to see that a website other than a strictly linux site(even if it is tomshardware:rolleyes: ) is talking about linux and encouraging people to use it. I think knoppix will be a stepping stone for a lot of people. Just put it in and it works. Only thing I can see that will hurt is the load times. I hope people understand that everything runs off the cd, which accounts for the long load times.

Thats what i find most intrigeing. At the very least i will be able to use it as a valuable recovery tool while at the same time peeking at linux for the first time. I will be moving to a gig of ram on Friday so load times wont be an issue. The article mentions you can actualy load the entire image to system memory lol.

I think i am going to have fun with this.

Well that sucks, well if it gets down and dirty i am a cpu and mobo away from another rig. I could go pure linux ground up if i have to. Better yet I have an old p3 450 collecting dust with a matrox g200 in it. I bet it would run linux quite well.

I never really used linux before I got a DSL build. 50Mb LINUX OS = 1337. And, the load times can be fixed by running it with, instead of just "knoppix," the command "knoppix toram." It loads the entire OS into RAM.. Pretty nifty.
