I want a reliable 200 gig hard drive.. ive been hearing a lot of bad things about WD not being as dependable as they used to be. I was told to use Seagate but figured id get some opinions from here.... thanks for any input.

Well, hard drives in general are extremely sensitive devices. Drives can become faulty due to many factors.

I think the reason you hear more about the faults of the WD drives is because more people own WD drives than other brands. So you're bound to hear more negatives as well as the positives.

I've been using Western digital drives for the longest time. I do admit a couple of them died on me. 1 recently died less than a month ago, which was a replacement drive I received from WD.

I also use Maxtor and an external Seagate. I installed a Seagate for my roommates computer.

It's basically your preference. Many people will have different opinions. All I can say is that my next drives will be 2 x 200GB SATA 7200.7 Seagates. When I compare my roommate's seagate and/or my external Seagate noise level to my WD- it is much quieter. Which is great. :p

Im running 2 36gig raptors in Raid0 for my OS so hopefully my WD's stay good! I wasnt worried about speed for the drive I was gonna use as data storage. Ive been reading a ton of posts and a ton of websites. Not sure what all is true. Ive read that WD and IBM are having thier drives manufactured in the same place and when this started WD started having more bad HD issues. Ive never had a hard drive die on any of my personal systems. I have seen a few WD go bad and a lot more IBM even befor the 75gxp. Ive used samsung drives but found them to be a poor performing hard drive and ive had 1 go bad on freinds setup and another im assuming is about to go bad becuase of the noise its making. Ive never personaly used a seagate drive so I figured id get some input on here.
