I am trying to reinstall windows on my old/backup computer, but when it gets to the part where you format the drive it doesn't work. It just says "Setup is formatting" and stays at 0% forever. I've tried XP and 2000 and they both get stuck in the exact same place. Anyone have any ideas?

check jumpers, cables, power

verify its properly recognized in the BIOS

download and run the manufacturers diagnostic

if necessary zero the HDD (might be included on the diagnostic)

If not Autoclave > on the Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/)

download and run the apropos set of drive tools for your specific make/model of hdd. These can always be found at the manufacturer's website in the support section. That should at least give you more information to bring back here, if not tell you the specific problem/remedy...
