With my ADSL, its like the 56k thing where it always disconnects it when someone calls. (you can see on the modem the connection the phone line light indicating its not connected) I didnt have this kind of problem before but I did get a new modem.
Can a poor quality modem cause disconnection with phone calls?
I also have a security system that requires a constant connection of the phoneline, i was wondering if maybe the phoneline cant handle so much splitting.

I had this issue before as well.....
How's the phone wiring in your house? Is it old?
How's the sound quality on the line? Is it full of static when you make phone calls?
Does the phone ever die completely for no reason?
Do you have a DSL splitter at the demarcation point or do you have filters on every jack.
I think I'm getting to the bottom of my issues. I ran a new line to one jack and that helped a little. I've temprarily disconected another jack and things have been pretty good so one of these weekends I'll be installing yet another run.
My phone also used to like to go out completely for no reason, ESPECIALLY on hot days where it was getting up to 90-110'F. The phone company installed a new box at the demarc point and that helped a little as well.
The modem might possible be partly to blame, but I would make sure your phone wiring is in good shape as well. This sounds pretty much like the exact problem I was having before.

id say either of those was possible.
I had trouble with my Sky system (UK here!) because its connected to the phone line, once i put the micro-filter in after it all was fine, check to see if anything is going down the line without first going thro the microfilter, that could be your main problem.
after that try your old modem again see if its does it!

Im living in Japan, Its a rental house, i think its rather new, dunno about the wiring but never had this problem be4 with my old modem.
Sound quality, no static.
Yes it does die for no reason...it also dies if I forget to hang up my phone. I find it tends to die more often if I downloaded a lot of stuff. So thats y i suspect the modem. The thing is i dont have my old modem anymore, had to return it to the provider.
Its actually still pretty cold here, like 8 degrees celsius.
I would try a new modem, but I would have to buy one.

it could be the way it works there.
is it only when the phone line is in use?

Well if the phone dies on it's own for no reason, I think something is definately wrong with it. You may have to deal with the phone company on that part.
Hopefully once that gets fixed the DSL will remain stable. If not, time to call your DSL provider. They may be able to run tests on the line for such things as noise margins and stuff. If all else fails, they may be able to replace the modem, so that would prove or disprove the modem theory.

I'd call the security company and get them to put a filter on the phone line. Every dsl install I have ever dealt with that has had an unfiltered security system has had this problem.
