I installed some crap software and now need to reinstall XP. I have only used XP about 5 months so this is the first I have had to do this. What is the proper procejur?

I have one 40gig HD with two equil partitions with all programs and window on one partition.

Also is there a way to backup the library list in window media player. I have about 10 hours of 4 to 5min skate edits that I want to keep in the same order.

The OS section would possibly provide more help.. but hey, since we're here...

Backup what you want backed up and then format the windows partition. Insert windows disk, reboot and follow on screen instructions.

As for media player library files.. doesn't seem to be in the media player directory. Try start -> run -> .

Yes, that's a full stop. Browse around, see what you find.

On a side note, to fufill my daily educational requirements, procedure is spelt 'procedure' and equal is spelt 'equal' :)

Maybe an easier solution depending on how long ago you installed the software would be to do a system restore to a good restore point.

Don't forget to hit v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com as soon as possible, as well.
