I bought this drive at comp usa for $99.99 after mir and it's a LOUD performer. Anyone else have the same problem with this drive? i thought seagates were supposed to be quiet  . It's secured in the hdd cage inside my case. I will test it out of the case on my bed to see if it still makes all the noise.

oh sorry, its loud during seek but when idle its very quiet. Opening an empty folder causes it to seek for a few seconds and it gets annoying. I was just wondering if this is normal for a seagate drive. when i get home from school i'll make a recording of it and post it on the thread for people to evaluate lol.

companies are sneaky about stuff like this.
Idle acoustics of 2.5 bels- the industry's best
it doesn't say anything about the drive being quiet during seeks.
i think segate gave up some of the quietness of their drives so they could squeeze some more preformance out of them.
i can barely hear my Baracuda IV when it's seeking, but ht has horrable seek times.

My two 120 gig 7200.7 are the same, very quiet while spinning, but during access they are pretty crunchy sounding. Overall they're still great drives IMO...
