Hey there...I went and bought an 80GB 7200RPM 2MB case HDD...I have a 200GB 7200RPM 8MB cache myself...this HDD is for another PC I am using...not too much gaming or anything...just a 2ndary PC to install Windows 98 on so I can run the games/apps that Windows 2k and up don't play very well...

Anyways I forgot to ask about its cache...it is 2MB of cache...is that bad or what??? Does it really matter??

I don't have full specs for the PC but here's an estimate on the important stuff:
CPU - Pentium IV 2.4B GHz or 2.53 B GHz
Mobo - MSI 865P Neo / Aopen AX4G Pro / MSI 655 Max
RAM - 256MB PC2100 MAYBE 512

Does cache really matter nowadays??? What's the point of the stuff anyways??? THANX
C'YA

yes the cache is important for a lot of read/writes, and there definitely are performance differences between 8MB and 2MB cache units, but if the PC you're building won't be used in any performance-oriented and disk-intensive applications, it doesn't matter.

It should be fine for what you plan to do with your second PC.

8 MB cache vs. 2 MB cache is a lot more noticeable when you're accessing disk very frequently or doing something disk intensive. I have two 2 MB cache HDs in my 2nd system, performance is still good; it should be good for you too.

And what would you describe as "performance oriented" and "disk-intensive applications"??
