well i dont know much about sata ...but i was just wondering why dont you see any optical drives going sata instead of ide?

the maximum bandwidth an optical HDD needs is only 33MB/s
so 150MB/s is overkill

there are ATAPI compatible SATA converters (http://www.acard.com/eng/press/2004/pcdiy01.html) however

someday in the not so distant future when SATA II and port multiplication replaces IDE all together, then native SATA opticals will be available, till then the ports are generally to valuable to waste on opticals, it will phase out eventually just like ISA did

or maybe they will migrate to USB or something
