Formatting A MAC For OSX 10.3

Sorry for the lame mac question, but I have an iBook G3 800Mhz, and I wanted to know if OSX Panther will install on the iBook if I erase (format) the HDD. Thanks in advance.

doesn't it ask you if you want to wipe the hd kind of fresh install or upgrade when you boot from the cd? somehting about hitting c while the computer boots up to boot off the cd. i don't know if mac laptops are different than an imac say

(btw, i only know because it was necessary for me to reinsall os x on a computer that i sorta screwed up while trying to install mysql on [that other thread.....] not because i'm a mac guy or anything)
