Wow, Duck someone cleaned your room?!.
That is the cleanest picture I have ever seen of it. :D
The HD497s on the center channel speaker kills me every time I see it.
I guess the Gerbil needs to get some headphone action. :p

A reciever just for some Senn 497s? Or are you hiding speakers around there somewhere?
agentzero9
02-18-2004, 08:17 PM
Well the speakers are for TV and DVDs. For music, 99.9% of which is played from my PC, I use the 497s.

02-18-2004, 10:49 PM
Nice to know a few other people are using 497's.... :D
And about the headphones around the center speaker, I do that to mine also to keep them from being too tight on my head. They're more comfortable after long periods if theyre already shaped a little wider than normal :D

Stunman, what's up with the monitor, that thing is sweet. Samsung?
497, give me 2 weeks and I am going to purchase one. I have the HD202 right now, but am selling that one for the 497, Audigy2 ZS, and I-Trigue L3500. Soon enough.

I love my toshiba (it's faster than those RCA's....)
Those are the Sony mdr7509 (http://www.sweetwater.com/mdr7509). They are very good headphones for what I was looking for, but I am considering getting some hd580's for when I am around the house. They are very comfortable, easily driven (like hd497), offer pretty good isolation, and good sound. They come with a screw-in 1/8" -> 1/4" which is pretty nifty, and after about a foot or two the cord is coiled (reaches about 10 feet).
The Sony mdr7506 (http://www.sweetwater.com/mdr7506) is the next model down.
edit:
here are some bigger (but much better) pictures of my setup:

So I finally got round to taking pictures of my speakers, well I did get my amplifyer fixed but they screwed up on sorting the tuner so they are away again. Any way here are the pics.
This is my Beocentre 4600, a blast from the past but I like it. (http://server5.uploadit.org/files/Keith130-Beocentre4600.jpg)
Then the boring speakers my Creative P580's they're all the same. (http://server5.uploadit.org/files/Keith130-Creative.jpg)
My favourite stack of speakers: on the top one of the P580's, then a Beovox S30 and at the bottom a kickass sony thing. (http://server5.uploadit.org/files/Keith130-CreativeBeoSony.jpg)
These two sit in the corner of my room, a Sony Surround for my TV which I dont have the the moment and a Beovox S30. (http://server5.uploadit.org/files/Keith130-SonySRBeo.jpg)
This corner beside my chest-of-drawers has some amazin bass, probibly because of the sub. So here we have a Jamo ART on the top, underneath a Beovox S45 and the large one at the side is my Jamo SW3 - great bass. (http://server5.uploadit.org/files/Keith130-JamoBeoJamoSUB.jpg)
The other Jamo ART speaker with my Lamborghini Countach and the Hornet making an appearence also. (http://server5.uploadit.org/files/Keith130-JamoLambo.jpg)

That's weird, those look like V600s to me. I have a pair of V6 (exact same thing as 7506), and they have a much more oval shaped pad, plus a slightly thinner headband.
I bought some senn hd 280 pros, hooked them up to my cmoy, and they are WAY better than the sonys. much truer, less colored, no icy highs. I'll be trying the beyer replacement pads when I've got a few spare bucks and some time... that might helpt he sony's a bit...
EDIT... i'm a tard... you said 7509, not 7506... excuse my 69 dyslexia ;)

Very Acceptable. Best layout I've seen so far. Although I'm a fan of more PC oriented speakers than the PC/Traditional hybrid setup. Of course with everything becoming optical, that's arguably an obsolete view.
You desk is interesting; it has no drawers....where do you keep your stuff?

Diablo111 - You got the same setup as I do, including the monitor.
How did you take the stand from the monitor off? I never knew that I could do that to it. Nice.

There are a couple off clips on teh bottom, push them in and slide it forward I believe...it's been a quite awhile since I took it off :)
I was worried about heat and other issues, so I e-mailed Viewsonic and they said it was fine and made to work that way...with or without the stand.

Especially considering it's in a dorm room :D. Sorry for the crappy pics, wasn't my camera and I didn't feel like messing with it.
Yamaha 6.1 setup... The DVD player is hooked up to the TV (27in.) via s-video (until I get a component input TV ;) ). Ia m using the optical out on the DVD player. My PC's audigy 2 is hooked up using the Analog outs to the multi-channel inputs on the reciever. I am using 25 ft. minijack to RCA cables... long ass cables.

How are those Axioms, and which ones are they? I could possibly use another set of speakers for downstairs, and I'm open to trying something other than Onix. How would you characterize their sound? My ref2's are pretty bright, but I really like them that way. They are definitely brighter than the Rocket RS750's I've heard before. My friend has a Klipsch setup, but he didn't bring it back up to school with him, so I can't really compare it directly to them, but I remember that I think mine are at least as bright, but certainly cleaner sound [then again, ref2's cost more than his whole 5.1setup and receiver]

They're the M3Tis and they're worth well more than the price IMO. The design is cool, and the lack of a crossover is also interesting to a dork like me. anyway
They are very smooth, but the bass still can attack when called for, much better than I had expected. The midrange is very smooth, and more natural than I'd expect and the highs are detailed but not too strong and not fatiguing. I find them well balanced overall. They sound great listening to some vinyl I've got like Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, not sure if that makes sense but they've got a great ambiance that matches some records that a lot of CDs lose.
The transparence and the soundstage they create are great, they put you right in the music, and are smooth enough without much coloration that you can forget you're listening to them. Other than the sound quality, the build quality is great, very solid and the veneer is as well done as I had read about. At first I found the trapezoid shape weird but its grown on me.
All comments obviously biased somewhat by the price :D, I think these things are a steal. The sound will depend on your source and room dynamics of course but they just sound great in my room.

Of the entire Axiom line the M3Ti's are probably the least 'bright' but the entire line is pretty forward, a lot like Klipsch, so odds are you'll like them. You also might want to check out Ascend 170's or 340's.

this is good news....Thanks for that pic with the rear speakers over the doorway. Best thing I have learned all day. Guess I should have looked at them a little closer. I had this plan to build stands for them out of rebar or something. Hopefully my roommates doesn't get mad at me for putting nails in the wall (he just bought this house)

The crestron controllers requires individual recievers I think. Either way, my dad wanted it so that you could listen to a DVD in one room, the radio in another, etc. In retrospect he thinks it was a waste too because they make recievers that can handle more than one thing now.

What is that really slim awesome looking keyboard? I love it!
it's a Logitech diNovo. It uses the bluetooth base that comes with the Logitech MX900 mouse. (same as the MX700 except bluetooth) it comes with a smaller number pad with an lcd. You can make a few different things pop up on the LCD.. for example.. I can sit on the couch and read instant messages and see when people pop on. It can also be used as a media pad.. I can play, ff, rr, skip mp3's etc straight from the pad.
here's more info on it.
http://www.fastlanehw.com/reviews.php?i=83&page=3
http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review1767.html
it was a little pricey when it came out (about $225-250! for the mouse and keyboard) but I found it online for about $125 for both.

magnetik...
you don't know how happy that makes me to find that!!!
I have been looking for a keyboard that is wireless and sleek and visually pleasing for over a year! I saw that in your pics and had to know what it was.
Anyways, I bought one (at a similar price even :D) and will be getting it in a week or so....and when I get back to college and get it setup, I will post back pics!
but yeah, just a cool thanks for having it and pointing me to links :D :)
I just bought the Klipsch Ultra 5.1 this weekend.. I don't have the surrounds hooked up yet, i'm awaiting on parts for my new PC (notice crappy 700Mhz Inspiron 8000 in background) so I can really hear what these speakers can do. They will hopefully hold me off for a while until I can get a set of Infinity Alpha's or Paridigm towers and surrounds and a nice receiver for my PC. :)
The cans pictured are well used Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's. I desperately need an amp, as my 250 ohm 'phones really dull the output of a soundcard. :(
Anyhoo, here is the pic:
http://www.zylosbackyard.com/Pictures/PC%20Setup.jpg
And if you try to steal any of my Supra models or my headphones, you'll have to get through these first! :D

thx. the m3po is a mp3 cd/hd player. With the m3po.. you can jam in a hd and dump the mp3's to the hd from the cd. I got a 250gb drive in there now. The reason I like it so much is that it can read ID tags which most dvd/cd players that can read mp3's can't. I also have a rack mount kit for it and it's nice brushed aluminum and has a remote.

Nice.. have you broken the alesis in yet? I got the m3po for $199 on clearance.. List was $799 when it came out.. which was back in 2000 I think. My car mp3 players also showed id tags.. I meant home cd/dvd players tho.. The only thing I didn't like about my Alpine was that it took forever to fast forward through long mixes. (but that was a few years ago)

Here's the current setup, I'm using the speakers from my Sony mini-system while I wait for the Athenas I bought on Boxing Day to get here. My computer is connected via an optical cable to the receiver (SoundStorm rox0rz!).

Well can I post this??
http://images.dr3vil.com/uploads/IMG_0314e.jpg
Will be upgrading my 2.1 to 5.1 but still can't decide between Klipsch and Logi 5500 or I could setup a HT setup like 2.1 and will be upgradable to 5.1 down part is I don't nothing bout them... If somebody out there can suggest the best receiver sat setup(2.1 for now and money not a factor as long as a piece won't cost me more than 500$) pm me or post a message here... I really want to make my room a entertainment room...

Why does nobody mention the Z-2300s?
I was aware of the far, far superior sound of a low end HT system, but then I found that the Z-2300s were only going to cost me $100 with free shipping from ecost, so I picked them up, and they've been a huge upgrade from the JBL creatures.
Yes, if I had $300-$500 to spare, I would have gotten a refurb receiver with 2 bookshelves, but this turned out to be much more economical for me right now. No way in hell I'd spend that price range on computer speakers like the highend Klipsch or Logitech surround packages. However, Z-2300 speakers are pretty damn good on the computer speaker scale.

Well that water cooling box is done but I dont have the guts to put a hole in my case hehe
well I'll do that once I get a wood drawer that can hold the case at bottom and WC box on top of it... maybe I'll end up doin my own from scrap wood.

Being an audiophile to the extreme, it angers me to see such things as improper placement.
Why do people use muddy stereo by having improperly placed "multichannel" speakers, when they could get two good studio monitors? Beats me but its just incredible how many people think it will give them better sound. How sadly misinformed.

I know. The point is i got speakers just few days ago, and the pic was taken as soon i've set em up. First I need longer cables for rear speaks, and 2nd figure it out where to put em, cos directly behind me is a big wardrobe and a tv. But anyway, the speaks are good as they are. They pack 2 much power even if the set up is totaly missed.

I understand. As you can see, I'm stuck with 2.1 (sub out of pic) due to a lack of good rear placement. These are Logitech 560Z's btw.

What self-righteous hole did you crawl out of? I can think of 10 different ways you could have worded that without sounding the way you did. Work on your people skills. The dude posted a pic. I'm sure it sounds decent - though possibly not as you might have them sound. Why don't you start of with:
"Hey bud - nice pic! if i may make a few suggestions"
