LOL yeah he overclocks it to 300 Mhz so it gets hot  I remember when everyone worried about heat with them old systems. Im about to put a 450 in a box im working on here. Dont knock the oldies, Linux on a 233 is equivlent to a windows on a 2Ghz.;)

yeah, i was using that case for my main system (in sig) until i got my coolermaster. when it was in use for my main rig the blow hole was necessary, now it is just kind of for looks. kind of like computer rice. hehe
i havn't found any way to OC my 233 yet, so if you know any secrets let me know :)

I agree with that, linuix actually runs pretty decent on that box. i might get some more ram in the future, but for now it works just fine.

That looks really clean. Where do you get one of those handle bar? I have a P2 laying around that I might turn into a Linux box. It is about the same specs as yours. What do you use it for anyways? I need some sort of a motivation for a 300MHZ PII to be turned into a modded linux box.

hi there, the handles came from home depot, but any home improvement store should have them. I think they are ment for gates or storm doors or somthing like that.
I use this box as an apache web server (http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi is where you can get apache for free)
the site i host off it is http://zmj.no-ip.org. nothing much there right now, but i will add to the ftp at a later date.

OOO, they are just regular door handles? That's cool, thanks for the tip. Always wondered where folks purchased their handles from, should have known better.
But your setup is running pretty good on Linux? Not too familiar with Linux, but what kind of stuff can you do with one installed anyways?

there is alot of good software for linux, like xmms (looks just like winamp), Apache is great for webservers, My disturbution came with a nice FTP server and client built in. There is lots to do with linux, and i am mainly iusing it just to learn a little bit about it before i go off to college :)

i've had gentoo running for about 2 weeks on an old p2 266 dell laptop. kde runs damn fast for something with these specs:
P2 266
10 gb hd
384 ram shared w/ video
some random 8mb ati card
i wish the ati drivers were better on linux tho, these linux drivers dont support opengl , and they really lag the system sometimes, o well still faster than windows.

yeah, linux does run pretty fast on slow and old systems. it is truly amazing on newer systems. i run it on my laptop which is a 1.8ghz celeron with 512mb of ddr and a 30 gb 5400 rpm hard drive.
I did a dual boot on that system since i use it for games once in a while.
linux is really cool, and with microsoft's teaming with award and pheonix to make it so that if you have any copyrighted material on your disk drive your computer will not boot up, i think that linux will get tons of new users.
