View Full Version : 2 Maxtors better than 1?
Right now I am currently running whats in my sig, is adding an additional maxtor hdd of the same capacity(identical drive), am I going to notice any speed increase? Is the hdd that i have now good or no? I am just curious, been out of the computer world for some time now.

Simply purchasing and installing another hard drive will not do anything for "speed". I assume you are referring to either Windows load time, program load time, file transfer, or game level load time. Other kinds of speed aren't nearly as dependent on the hard drive. Anyway, buying a second hard drive, and using it for your paging file might help a little, but not enough to justify the expense. You could run two drives in Raid 0 for some noticeable differences in some generally unjustifiable areas, like game level loading... but to do that, it looks like you'd need an add-in card. I prefer running Raid 0 natively (on motherboards that come with this feature).
In conclusion, 2 Maxtors are better than 1, but only for the purpose of having more storage space (generally speaking).
sorry, what i was meaning was if i raid them will it be faster, will i notice a increase.and no i dont need a card, right now i have a promise onboard raid controller for sata
You would see a speed increase with two drives in RAID0. But RAID0 has a higher chance for loosing data since you scatter the data across two drives instead of just one.
