where did stand-by go?

hello. i'm back again. with few problemz, of course. =(
the first inconvenience i'd very much like someone to help me solving is that the stand-by function on my WinXP PRO SP1 is... gone! that button in shut down-restart-standby menu is blank, and the keyboard's -sleep- key is no longer functional. what is wrong? it just happened one day, like a boltning from the blue.
any ideas?

I've seen this problem before, and usually it's because of missing or bad drivers for a certain piece of hardware. I'm guessing the drivers for each piece of hardware in your system have to support going into standby, before XP will actually let the system go into standby. I'd just take a quick scan through the device manager and make sure there aren't any problems.

It might also be a good idea to get the latest drivers for everything in your system. Chipset, video, sound, etc...

I usually have this problem when my video drivers are not installed.
