I'm putting together another dualie SMP rig using the IWILL MPX2 mobo. Im looking for high performance here.
This mobo does have the 64bit pci slots.

What I've got to use are: 2 x 36 GB WD Raptors with a RocketRaid 1520 pci card. Or I could use a IBM ServerRaid 4x U160 SCSI Controller with some 9GB or 36GBx10k U160 drives. I'll most likey do RAID 0.

Ok so what should I use? both? Is it overkill?
Can you use 2 different types of RAID 0 on the same rig?

chime in.

I would go with the IBM card and the 4X 10k drives. The access time would be less than the Raptors would be. If the card supports it I would run Raid 0 + 1 with the 4 drives. You would have data security that way. It wouldn't be much of a hit on performance with the SCSI.

nothing wrong with using both..just depends on if you're serious about spending alot of money on all the items.
With the serveraid 4H, you could easily set up a nice array, using all 4 seperate channels, that would require extra cabling and adapters, unless you house all the drives outside the case..but you'd see far better perforormance putting the drives on seperate channels on an array.
