Halo locks up when starting multiplayer

I was just given Halo today, and multiplayer will not start. If I start it from the game or from game spy, the game locks up my computer and I have to perform a hard reboot.

The computer is the 2.8ghz XP Pro system in my sig, and I cannot figure out what's causing the problem.

When I launced from Game Spy Halo locked once the full window came up with the splash screen logo. If I click multiplayer, play online within Halo it locks this instant I click play online. Any idea what's going on?

Have you tried getting the latest patch? Google for the halo website. Try a reinstall too.

Yeah, I installed the latest patch, but I am going to reinstall once I get my 2nd hard drive back today.

I got it to work, off and on, using "use11" in the path from the shortcut which forces it to use pixelshader 1.1.
