well i was installing the drivers for a sound card and it was 95 % when the drive started making weird noises and the installation procedure froze and i took it out and it had that damage there
i've heard of cd's shattering before... odd. does the cd look like it was good qaulity?

somehow i managed to do that.. but thanks though :)
I would assume defect in the CD before defect in the Pioneer. . . I wouldn't think the common assumed explanation of "spinning too fast" would hurt the center of a CD first like that. . .
Looks like the laser tried to punch through it.
I had a DVD disc split from the center to mid-disc while in my Samsung drive. Saving Private Ryan too :( .
Snorting lines of cocaine on the desk are we ;) .

Thats a first for me, the most I've seen has been "streaking" on the disc. My friend has a TDK slot loading and hasn't had any trouble like that at all, in fact I'm thinking about getting a pioneer later this month.

Wow, never saw that before, looks like you droped something on it.
Probably from heat somehow, like someone else said a crappy cd maybe.

is that cocaine on your desk?
i doubt it was heat since it's just a dvd drive... the lazer shouldn't get to hot... now, if it was a burner, could be heat becuase the lazer get's hotter to write the data. but, um... he wouldn't be writing to a driver disk anyways.
i'd say its just some sort of defect, the cd had to spin unevenly and hit something inside the drive to do something like that... would be my only thoughts anyways.

lol, is white paint
anyway, it could be a faulty cd,
i'll give the drive a try, but if it happens again it will certainly be a drive defect

fix pic plz
I've used the same CD drive for several months now, and never had a problem with it. If it was the drive and not the cd, I'm surprised they wouldn't let you rma it.

sorry for bumping this topic, but this bump is related to the topic
after i tried the drive again, the drive couldnt read any other cd, it ejected the cd's
then i reflashed the original firmware (from Pioneer site) and the drive is working like normal, no issues
as for the cd in picture, i believe it was a faulty one
but i am stumped
can drive firmware corrupt itself?
the drive is now working and is not making the old bad sounds it made when the incident happen (the weird sounds also occur prior to the cd incident)
