Maybe this should be in the general hardware forum?
Ok, my case has a temp probe (hooked to a led display on front) that works great, but I was wary about where to put it. Right now, its just hanging in front of the mobo reading (how accurate-dont know) general case temp. I wanted to read cpu temps, but was afraid to lodge it between the heatsink and cpu. also thought of attatching it to the heatsink close to the base(near cpu), but wasnt sure how accurate it would be. Any suggestions?

You're right... It's not the best idea to place the temp probe between the CPU and the heatsink. You would risk losing significant heat transfer doing it that way.

I know on certain temp probes you can place the wires leading into it between the CPU pins and the socket, leaving the probe directly under the processor in the middle of the socket area. If you dont have this type of probe, don't think about doing that.

Another alternative is to stick the probe on the back of the motherboard attached to the back of the processor core. This is what I have on mine and it seems to give me accurate temperatures according to MBM5 (this is assuming MBM is accurate...)

Good luck
