Redoing these pictures---
Answers to posts from the beginning of the thread on old pics:
To G-Bull: I never realized it but I do have alot of Ikea.
My Proview monitor is sitting in a min ikea drawercabinent thing, my closet has two ikea dressers, my desk is an old ikea desk i got from my dads g/f and the rest of the room is painted to look Ikeaish.

OMG! Please tell me those aren't beanie babies in that first picture? I see three monitors in that first pick. What kind of monitors are you using? That green comforter on your bed looks comfortable too! Make and model?

Here is my room...kinda crowded, and not as nice as other people's work areas...although unique in its own way. :)

hehe...yes i have one (back right) of the satellites mounted upside down on the ceiling. i couldn't get a good position with the speaker on the ground (ie. speaker stand), so i just mounted it up there. it works out surprisingly well. i imagine i could get the sound to be better if the speaker was close to me, but like i said, it works out pretty well.

above is a pic of my old desktop.... changed it a little, will be updating.

I'll also try and get some pics of my dad's workstation.

Edit: i also now have a rat Padz, instead of the gel mouse pad. I like the rat padz much better!!! (for me, i turn it around 90š for typing, so the round side is face'ing the keyboard, and it fits snuggly! And when i want to play games, i just turn it around and get the full area for those great head shots ^_^.)

Yea, i love my desk, very sturdy.... O' Sullivan. No warping what-so-ever, after about 1.5 years. Now, if only it could hold the weight of my 19" Sony........... without those ugly 2 make-shift wood braces, LOL. Maybe once i get my Flat pannel,,, then those things will be chucked!

Meh. The monitor is a 22" Dell (Sony Trinitron) and it suits my pallette just fine. You show me a LCD of this size that displays 1600x1200 that costs less than $1000, and I may consider a switch. :p

Well, it's 20, but still it's real big, and, if you order fast enough, you'll get it for like $800.00. I would order, but have no $$$. :(

Rest-assured, it's the pic itself. It was a 1/30 exp. done handheld, and I'm not the most steady of people. Also, the text on the wallpaper itself in the lower right-hand corner is suposed to be blurry, albeit the creator of the wallpaper.

I have been thinkin real hard about that. I wanna do something, even if its just a nice mp3 player under the seat. I ride the bus and stuff and this chair gets a bit of thrashing so i dont think a computer would last to long. but i do wanna try and think up something cool to do with it, i got a water bottle and a pouch for my digi cam/cell phone so far hehe, never know wanna your gunna see something u wanna take a pic of. :p

as for the chair, I was riding a dirt bike when the front tire got stuck between two boards and the bike threw me off over the side. I was on a bridge at the time... here (http://www.goatinatree.com/hardforum/bridge.jpg)

I dunno mate, but my wife gives me shit all the time. And I keep adding more, so it's only going to get worse.

The family isn't too bad about it though, but then again, they know what kind of packrat I am.

But as far as the wife and friends, I always get flack from them. Nowadays, I just tell them to piss off. :D

BTW-- Bummer about the wheelchair mod to yourself. After seeing the pic of that bridge, all I can think to myself is wow. But, sounds like you were damned lucky after that fall regardless.

yeah, in my last post i put a link up for this L shaped desk that i like alot. i am having a hard time locating desks like the ones i see on here. very nice stuff. Also, the grado's are ampless for the time being. I am low on dough so i just have them plugged into my kenwood receiver for now. i want to build an amp, but i just havent the time or the soldering iron, i know a cheap item so i might just got for it and work on it in my spare time. i'm the kinda person who likes to start and finish something though so i dont know how well that will work out. hehe. i'll most likely find one i can buy off head-fi for around $50

This site might not have the "best" prices, but if your having problems finding a good desk.... here you go.

http://www.osullivan-furniture-online.com/

then just click on computer desks. You can expect to pay around 100-400$US depending on what you get.
I recommend O' Sullivan because i have had very good experiences with their products. Super sturdy and made to last. Granted that they are fake wood, but still........... you save a lot of money this way ^_^ !!

~hope this helps.

mxpxrulzz, you REALLY need to point that center channel DOWN, not up. Just unscrew the two allen screws and flip the speaker the other way. Now it will point towards you, and you can hear it much better.

Hmm...I just tried flipping the center channel speaker ( i have the same set of speakers) and it points straight up...For it to point at me, it would have to be wall-mounted.

Which monitor? And are you talking physically? Or on the display? If you're talking physically, on the left monitor it's a couple of figurines, my center channel speaker, and a red Swingline stapler. On the side it's a piece to one of those things that allow you hang papers on either side of the monitor.

If you're talking about on the display, the right monitor is Gentoo Linux being compiled, the left is... Good question, I'm not sure. I see Windows Media Player, and part of my desktop, can't tell what the rest is.

I'm happy with it...seems well built (once you find one with no bad pixels, that is). touchpad is ok. I hate it though; I much prefer my IBM's trackpoint. But, that wasn't an option..I still have to get used to scrolling on it.

I tried that and it always had a popup box where I would have to hit enter in order for it to go directly to the forums. The address was already there.
I also don't feel like messing with it.
The big orange [H] looks cooler IMHO anyways.
I have the shopping and search buttons set to newegg and google. The 3 of them I use all the time so it also makes sense to have them grouped together.

Here's mine... I painted everything a color called twilight blue. It's so dark it almost looks black. It took almost 2 gallons of primer, paint, and clear coat at the cost of about $160. It also took a total of two weeks before everything was done.

I used silver dry transfer lettering. Purchased them at a local hobby store for about $5. It was hard lining up the letters perfectly. After the primer, paint, and lettering I used a smooth clear coat designed for model airplanes. I used this clear coat since it's designed to resist a lot of tough liquids. This clear coat dries harder than a rock. It's very hard to scratch the keys making it very durable. For the hand rest and the rest of the outside of the keyboard I sprayed about a dozen very fine misty coats of automotive clear coat on top of the several layers of paint to create a gritty surface. I made it like that since a smooth hand rest doesn't allow air to get under palms making them sweaty. Most keyboards are molded like that to begin with. The keyboard took me 4 days to do. I spend about 6 to 8 hours each of those days doing it.

I'd mod the case, but it looks so nice stock :-P

I think the standard window and lights type mod would look stupid with the apple case... I dunno.

What I really need to do is drop the stock keyboard and mouse entirely. You know, get a mouse with more than ONE FREAKING BUTTON.

Very true. I have the same desk (page 3 or 4 in this thread) and I hate it. People like it and after a lot of adjusting, I eventually got it to line up and work correctly - but the little nuts on the side ALWAYS need tightening and the keyboard drawer recently broke apart. I spent two hours re-inserting the little balls into the ball-bearing sliding trays. Not fun.

My next desk will not be glass - I do *not* recommend them, after using one for almost two years now. It was cool at first but I don't really see the advantage - plus it's much harder to do wire management. Back in the day, I worked hard enough to run all the wires along the backs of the frame so you couldn't see the wires - but that's an almost impossible feat to do 100% correctly.

Tell your friend not to bother with the glass.

Although not always the case, it is often a matter of you getting what you pay for. Glass is elegent and oozes professionalism (sex appeal), but it's fragile and not for everyone, or applications.

There are great glass desk but expect to pay a lot! The ones I've seen are anywhere from $500+ to a few thousands. Those you can be sure are quality.

Battleangel, I am pretty sure that a subwoofer works better on the floor 100% of the time. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

As far as that desk, yes it is definitely awesome, but are you sure it's wood, and not fiberboard/MDF?

MDF = medium density fiberboard

Subwoofers really do belong on the floor so that the driver has something firm to rest on. Also the desk most likely is NOT made out of wood unless he paid upwards of $1000, mainly due to the complexity of that L-shaped desk with the hutch and all. Most likely just really good particleboard or MDF.

what do you expect? INCREDIBLY nice look, nice chair to go along with it for extra 100, and at the time there was a 100$ coupon for spending more than 500 or somethin..Incredibly nice quality too, and incredibly HUGE, the glass doors in particular i really like. And soooo much space.

Thought I should chime in, Battleangel's desk is Particle Board with a veneer faux finish on the outside, you should be able to tell as all sauder furniture is made out of the same stuff, but more to the point, I have two of the same desk in my office at work, one of them had a piece snap in half when I put my AS/400 on it, so I got a second to replace it.

also, that has to be the oldest TV I've seen in a long time battleangel, that's not always a bad thing though, i mean, the tv I have in my bathroom is about ten years old and the picture on it is nearly the same quality as my Plasma in the living room

I doubt you have the same exact desk, and I guarantee these boards will not snap in half unless i put 5 of the fattest people on it, it took THREE people to get this up my stairs, this including resting along the way, and not some little weak hippy teenagers. They cannot lie on there website that its not wood, thats false advertising, it is obviously really wood.

As for the TV yea i know :D It was from my grandfather, and only goes up to 30 channels.i find it quite nice for simply watching tv when by the comp, but if i really wanted to, I could get a tv tunner for my 2001FP

yeah it works nice, two small problems, the card i got is shite :( connect3d who are not know for there overclocking boards, and ive not done the voltmod YET, saying that, it doesnt run any game poorly, clocked to 355,330 not that bad but i could go better with more volts, the coolin works like a charm, hardly warm to the touch, however the memory on the other hand gets pretty damn hot as it is.

i just got it last week and have been liking it so far. the case only came with a 200 watt supply and i thought i could fit a 350 watt in there, but i can't :/. at any rate the machine seems to be running fine nontheless (barton 2500, radeon 8500 128 meg, 512 ddr, 80 gig 7200 rpm hd, cdrom, floppy). things get a little hot in the case, but i'm going to do some better wiremanagement to fix that.

as far as my center channel i finally broke down and put it on top of monitor....i do enjoy the sound better. thanks for the suggestion.

yes the temp monitor works great. there are 3 sensors you place around inside the case to monitor cpu, system and hard drive. you can display in either c or f. also there is a display for time, date, hard drive busy-ness, power. the coolest feature is an alarm clock. the bugga is VERY loud and works well for getting up for school each morning hehe. i can take a closer pic if anyone needs.

I need. Take a closer pic :)

I think I have a sick fetish for mATX

A month or two ago, I bought this GMC f-11 (http://www.gmc.co.kr/english/good_e_f11.htm) mATX off newegg for $20 shipped, but I have yet to put anything in it since I don't have money to buy a mATX mobo, PSU or dvd/cdrw combo drive. Since it was being discontinued, and selling so cheap, I just had to get it.... can't wait to build it up too :)

I think I see that A106 in my future as well though... with watercooling ;)
