open the control panel, open scanners and cameras, click your camera, click properties, and then click the events tab, click take no action.

Can you delete the camera from the control panel, then have XP redetect it? Right click on the Scanner and Camera control panel and choose Explore. Find your device and delete it. Maybe that would work?
Also see if this (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/proddocs/scanner_camera_event.asp) helps at all. It states you must have your camera connected to view the properties.
that did the trcick thanks!
