So i bought a pioneer 106 for $129 from newegg bout 3 weeks ago, but now Im thinking.. 8x liteon drives are $138, thats a merely $30 with the restocking fee and postage I'd have to pay pay if I sent it back and got this 8x drive

Is it worth it ?

honestly.. no.. in my opinion.
Unless it's that important to you to cut a few minutes off your burning time. Even though I upgraded to a 8x dvd writer, I don't think it's worth it.. (for me it was because my whole setup is a black theme, and my sony drive was sticking out like a sore thumb) and I don't even take advantage of 8x writing (just purchased a whole lot of 4x dvd-r media.)

The good thing about newegg is that if you can convince them to not charge you the restocking fee (it's worked for me a couple of times). If you can do that, then go for it..

Otherwise, it's not worth it. $30 is still almost 25% of the pioneer drives cost.

hrmmr

i could really use 8x burning, i have a question though

What 4x media can burn 8x ? other than uber expensive TDK etc

Also any advice on having the restocking fee waived ? I could really use that for returning my 9700pro also =)

If you get a plextor 708a (or TDK AID+840G - which is a rebadged plextor), you can burn alot of 4X DVD+r(only) media @ 8X.
An affordable quality dvd+r media I recommend is made by ritek.

There's no sure way for you to get your restocking fee waived, it just depends on who you talk to and how you talk to them.
