I'm looking for a new gamepad for my PC. Right now I have a MS Sidewinder which is outdated to say the least (no thumbsticks or anything).
What is a good gamepad for racing, 3d action, and sports games?

I like my Logitech Wingman Rumblepad
I use it for:
Madden 2004
NFSU
MTM2
TRAOD
MCM2
MidtownMadness1&2
4x4evo 1&2
NFS Hot Pursuit2
..and a few other older games

I second the logitech wingman rumblepad, comes with 8 buttons, rumble, dual analog sticks, d-pad, throttle and is fully programable. Hasnt thrown up a problem yet, use it for midnight club 2, need for speed underground, legacy of kain defiance and mame roms.

i also use a wingman rumble pad, the only problem ive had is its responsiveness isnt tight enough on the digital pad for any super nes or other 8-16bit console emulators.

I've been looking at this one for a bit:

I just think it looks good because it is pretty much a playstation controller without the rumble. Anyone have it?

I have that and it's good for me. Feels just like a ps2 controller but I don't like the 8 position D-pad.

if u gotta ps1 or ps2 and like it, use that controller. buy a usb>ps2 convertor, i got mine for like $6 and it works perfectly

I have been using the Logitech Rumble Pad for quite a while now. I think almost 3 years now.
It's a great gamepad. The added 2 analog joysticks are really cool and work really well. I use them a lot when playing GT Racing 2002. Awesome gamepad.
However, after all these years, it is about to fail on me. 2 buttons that I frequently press are starting to get stuck and aren't as responsive as before. But it has been 3 years and I have used it quite a bit. So I kind of expected it.
Great gamepad though. Lots of buttons. There is also a throttle slider too.

oh ..and did I mention that thes logitechs wingman rumble pads are tuff as nails too ...I dont know how many times I've thrown my controller out of frustration on a race or something of the sort ..(childish I know) ...but the dabburn thing takes a licken and keeps on ticken ...:) (over 3 years here as well on one controller)

I have tried both ..and went with cordless because of the meatier feel to it plus the freedom ...that and because my old corded wingman is gettn a little sloppy after 3 years

Yep, my brother and his mate have a small pc building business so i got to try both before deciding which one i wanted. The cordless is nice but its more expensive and plus I didnt want to waste money on changing batteries. So far out of all the games ive played I havent needed to resort to the d-pad at all so it really hasnt been an issue for me.

That one is quite nice.I believe that's the only wireless gamepad ( someone correct if I'm wrong) that has a rechargeable docking station ( ala Logitech MX700).As I stated not too long ago,I would recommend a ps2 to usb converter/dual shock ps2 controller or a Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power 3 ( 6 shoulder triggers,4 buttons,2 analog mini sticks and your usual d-pad)
