Lot of the games have been trades for working on computers and trading items and some wheeling and dealing, and some cash as well. Its amazing how people will part with something if they need money bad enough. I collect systems and games, I currently own a Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Colecovision, Intellivision, Vectrex, Texas Instruments Computer, All the Nintendo systems, All the Sega systems Including that crappy 32x) 3DO. Jaguar, Turbo Graffix 16, Turbo Duo, NEC FX, Neo Geo Cart, Neo Geo CD, Xbox, VIC 20, Commodore 64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, Amiga 3000, and a couple of others tucked away. I want to build a Glass case and display just the systems in chronological order with lights shining on em, I think that would be supercool, my girlfriend doesnt approve but screw her, she dont live with me and i pay all the bills. Enough said lol.

Why bother collecting all of the games, if you have only played some for 20 minutes?
I usually get games i would like to play, not that i want to display.

It's called a COLLECTION. It's a hobby that some people have. I had a gf that collected Barbies... some of these Barbies were $100+, and she never took them even out of the packages (they were never meant to be taken out), or played with them.

Im 29 years old and i work For Dr. Pepper/7-Up its a pretty good job, glad i didnt waste my time going to college lol, most of my friends still cant find a decent job with there college degrees and there pushing 30 years old. Ive been working here for 10 years now, funny thing is 2 of my friends i got jobs after they got out of school, big difference is they gotta pay off all those student loans.

agreed. A game won't go up in value, but a console MIGHT. I can understand collecting the console, and say a few games for it. But not every single game ever made for it, it's mainly just a waste of time / money / resources. imo. And the fact that he's used the games decreases their value instantly, and they'll never hold the same value. Hence why most collectors NEVER open their collection (ie: the barbie girl mentioned earlier).
Marcdaddy: i'm impressed by your list of consoles, hopefully you're storing them in at least decent conditions. Also, your comments about wasting time w/ college is pretty pompous. Considering you went to work for the company right out of high school and got lucky. Not everyone can work up a corporate ladder or secure a job straight out of high school. (sorry, don't mean for this to turn soapbox)

All of you naysayers are basing your opinions on one incredibly stupid assumption: He's collecting this stuff to earn money.
True collectors like collecting in and of itself.
Some people collect barbies, some collect baseball cards, some people "waste" quite a bit of money on hardware and cooling equipment that'll be obsolete far before the Xbox will.
Why do the really hardcore overclockers overclock? I'll give you a hint: it's not for the performance or to save money. If you can't comprehend that, you're in the wrong forum.

you do bring up a good point. But there are many different types of collectors as well. Most collectors will look at something and if it's piss poor quality, they won't collect it. (ie: baseball card collectors won't want a card w/ torn / rounded / edges)
But uhh... overclockers are not collectors. Nor are people who buy new hardware all the time. Those are different ball fields.
Also, i wasn't basing my comments on the assumption he's doing it for money, but the fact remains that it would be pretty stupid to go and collect things of poor quality. It wouldn't be to impressive if half his collection of games were scratched, missing the cases / box / jacket insert / et cetera.
edit: slight after thought: it'd be as if Jay Leno's car collection were all on blocks w/ dents, no paint, rust, cracked windows. It'd be a complete waste. And Leno's not selling his cars, or doing it for profit. Shit he's pumping money into it, and probably getting NO returns.

Nothing wrong with collecting what ever you're into.
I collect Hockey cards and some people think I'm an idiot.

XBOX is a 733 mhz p2 (or was that p3? I doubt it), I refuse to buy such crappy hardware just so that I can play games with a controller that I hate so that I can play really crapy with said caontroller. I prefer my mouse and keyboard and I'm 30x better with it than any of the console controllers. You'd think they'd make them well but sigh all they do is make em cheap to make money off of the proprietary hardware with the console. I hate consoles as you can tell. PCs owned consoles from the beginning and wasting time making consoles and games for said consoles is a big waste of resources when they could just sell computers and games for said computers plus some nice computer (optional) unproprietory controllers.
I dunno am I way off base here?

BTW, NICE collection.

thsi is something that has been bothering me for a while, i dont understand why there isn't a mouse and keyboard available for the xbox, i mean the dramcast had atleast a keyboard, i think a mouse too.
its about time they started making some keyboard and mouse combo packs for the xbox.

your way off base. ;)
For one, some games are just not designed for a keyboard / mouse. I wouldn't be suprised if you own a gamepad for your PC, if you do: look at it's design, and compare it to the design of a console controller. You'll see they share design aspects, if not an almost identicle design. They share them for a reason, console makers have put a TON of time into designing the "perfect" controller.
Also, looking at specs alone i can see how you hate consoles. But if you actually LOOK at what the consoles continue to push out, and what PC's push out (graphic's wise) then I'd think you'd like consoles more. The more time I spend at friend's house's playing Xbox the more I want one.
For computers there are WAY to many variables to take into account for consoles to be done away with. Why would a console maker offer a full blown PC when they would have to charge the price of a full blown PC and then somehow stop people from upgrading said PC (ie: adding another variable).
sorry to derail the thread. :(

UMM GUYS, all you have to do is go to the official Xbox homepage and buy ythe USB adapters that plug into your joystick and you can use a mouse and keyboard for games like Phantsy Star Online.

A little off topic

But Video game system collectors might find that pretty interesting. That guy is probably the ultimate videogame system collector.

Um, VERY VERY few Barbies go up in value. Infact, those who collect it, usually don't do it as a sort of investment. Do you think everybody that collects comics or baseball cards do it for the investment? Is it that hard to comprehend that some people just do it because it's a hobby? I know plenty of people that have in excess of 200+ DVDs, who know that the vast majority of those movies will never go up in value, yet they do it anyways.
It's a little ignorant to think that there's only one way to behave.

Ok, I've got about 110 CDs that I've bought over the course of the last 10 or so years, the reason being I actually like (or liked at some point in time) them and listen to them. If you buy games just to say that you've played them for at least 20 minutes, what the fuck is the point? Isn't it a better idea to invest that into something, you know, not totally useless? I know the whole "diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks" thing is being thrown around a lot, but having that many games basically necessitates a fucking intervention. The reason somebody would call somebody who has more than 200 videogames retarded is because:
a) it's in the best interests of the fuckin' insane person who's become so dependent on videogames that he collects them like a serial killer collects bodies in a fridge
b) IT'S RETARDED, BY GOLLY
You're comparing the guy to the Barbie and stamp collectors of the world like they're the normal people of the world, when in fact they're pretty much the bottom rung, as low as it goes. Just...wow.

I have to agree, people collect different things, what the fuck are car collectors going to do with all thier cars, especially the ones they only look at. In the end does it really matter how much or how little crap you collected, to me it's all stuff, none of which any of us really ever "need". But why can't games be as valid to collect as barbies and crap, you can't really use them either. You collect shit because you like it. I also want to know more about that aqua teen hunger force game, can't find a mention of it anywhere, who makes it?
