For the past 2 days, my primay IDE channel has been going off at random times. I just got a new harddrive, WD1600jb, and it put it alongside my WD1200jb. Its on the slave channel with the slave jumpers set. Is this drive dying or is it the channel as a whole? PLZ help, the 160gig drive houses my anime and it would be a shame to lost it :(

Change the config and see if its the drive or the channel
reload the drivers for the IDE ATA\ATAPI controllers (Device Manager)
Start > Run > (type) Compmgmt.msc > Device Manager > Uninstall Primary, Secondary and BusMaster
(check if there are any updated drivers w\ the mobo manufacturer or the chipset maker example: for VIA the Hyperion 4 in 1 drivers)
test the drive w\ the manufacturers Diagnostic Utility (http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp)
and try a different cable (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=708822)

latest version of the WD Lifeguard has a Windows GUI
so you can install it to the OS, but Im not sure the diagnostic is part of that function set
also there is the Ultimate Bot CD
but that is an older diagnostic
