6 cell, battery 9 cell battery etc what dose it mean?

they say different cell numbers for dell.com on laptop batteries and different models. What does it matter how many cells it has? is it the battery size, the capacity, the technology in hte batteries?

more cells mean more Watt Hours can be supplied, and therefore a longer battery life ( or possibly compensating for power hungry hardware) and i'd expect they'd also be larger and weight more.

To give you an idea of time wise.. normal usage.

6 cells on a Pentium M = ~ 5-6 hours.
6 cells on a Pentium 4M = ~ 3 hours.
6 cells on a Pentium 4 = ~ 1.5 hours.

9 cells on a Pentium M = ~ 8-9 hours.
9 cells on a Pentium 4M = ~ 5-6 hours.
9 cells on a Pentium 4 = ~ 3 hours.

This has been my experience... as I have used all types of these chips and batteries in different laptops and these are just my averages.

Oh yeah.. and a battery with more cells also adds a bit more weight. About .75lbs per 3 cells.

Size usually doesn't change, cept with Gateway.
