I'm thinking my mobo batery is dieing since my clock is always 2 or 4 hours behind what the actual time is when I restart the computer. also I've been running off the same batery for 6 years now so i'm pretty sure that's it's shot.

My question is where do I go to find one?

my comp is an old compaq presarrio 5202 (with large overhaul in upgrades, and repairs done by me)

RadioShack should carry them. Just take out the battery and bring it with you when you go there.

If your time is constantly off you may want to check that you have the correct time zone set in Windows XP.

I've seen a few people who thought something was wrong with their mobo battery. It actually turned out to be XP's auto time sync feature setting the time wrong because they didn't have the correct time zone set.

It's usually one of the more common watch batteries. I believe most of them can be bought at most big department stores that sell watches. Take the old one with you / write the number down to be sure.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Yea check Radio Shack or one of your local computer repair stores. I'm sure they probably have what you need. I had that happen on an old HP machine i had. It kept losing the date and time every time i shut down the computer and i would have to go into the BIOS and reset it.

ya the thing with mine is that it keeps the date correct it's just the time that fluctuates. I checked the timezone and it's set on pacific time. Which is what i'm in so?

Computers have generally used a standard CR2032 lithium battery for a number of years now, and even that Compaq is likely to use such a standardized battery. You are likely to even find it at the camera bar at your local grocery store that battery type is so common.

I concurr with all the other posts. You can use either the CR2032, or the DL 2032. Both are common, and if your state has Rite Aid drug stores you can pick one up there.

Are you from Michigan ? Most of Michigan is in the Eastern Time Zone
The four counties of Dickinson, Gogebic, Iron, and Menominee in the western Upper Peninsula are in the Central Time Zone
