Serial ATA and the 7 Deadly Sins Of Parallel ATA (http://www.lostcircuits.com/advice/sata150/3.shtml)

you can connect a PATA HDD to a SATA cable\port with a bridge card

while there isnt really any performance increase with SATA, there is a slight efficiency increase, and a considerable data integrity increase, in addition as mentioned the thinner cables are a plus as is the support for "hotswapping" HDDs

Id recommend reading As the Disk Spins (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=699246)
