Here's mine. I love it so far although my dusty room really shows on the black surface. The only accessories I got for it were the holders for CDs on the left and the magazine ones on the right.
Other accessories available were a swinging table that could be attached to the side v-bars and an extension shelf to put on the top. Table is really sturdy and I recommend it! :)
Only gripe is that it doesn't have much storage space. (No shelves or drawers)

It's definetly a nice desk.
So that swing out table that a lot of the Jerkers have are not standard with the desk? Would you reccomend them?

01-01-2004, 01:14 PM
Yeah they're definitely super handy to have. But I didn't get any because as you can see in my pic, my table is right next to the window, so no space and I can't have a couple of swinging shelves right above my bed. :)

Hmm, I'll be reorganizing my room if I get a Jerker, so I might hold off on getting those until after I've figured out my new setup.

The bare columns look really out of place since I moved the upper shelf and made it my dispaly shelf. I understand Ikea sells extensions so I may pick one up and add one on top to increase to put other stuff. This is a good desk, but a bit small. You can see how there isn't much room with 2 monitors on. $150 Canadian is what I paid 2 years ago.

hey, a ronin, what kind of monitors are those? how is the ghosting on them? i was about to buy a 1703fp last night, however i had problems with the dell website...

I got the next level up... one of the office lines. It cost me about $400 Canadian.
I'll probably get a Jerker soon for my sister's computer and another for my room as a study table.
Grandmaster Freeze, what speakers/sub are those?
Grandmaster Freeze

They're Mordaunt Short MS902's and the sub is a JBL PB12.

That's nice, but $400 including the chair and organizer beneath the table, too? Otherwise it wouldn't be worth it. My brother bought a solid mohogany or something like that desk at Office Depot for about the same money and this thing is a monster, but stury and beautiful. BTW, where did you get the Audi poster? I'd love to get one.
rayman2k2, its a Samsung 191T/N. I use the T with the digital connection for gaming, but the minimal ghosting is about the same on either one.

Haha, my desk has such a crappy name. I'll post a picture in the morning when I get around to cleaning everything up. Err, morning is relative to when I wake, so later in the day.
Edit:
http://www.theforumisdown.com/uploadfiles/1203/thejerkerdesk.jpg
I think it cost me $150 CAD. Which, at that time, was about $100 USD.

I noticed that you have what I think is IKEA's wire management hanger/basket thing lying on the floor under the desk in that picture. Is there any reason that you are not using it? I was thinking about picking up one or two ... okay 5 ... of them to use in my new office that I just got finished in my house. My only reservations were that I did not know how sturdy they were or how ultimately useful as a means of wire management Can you give me your $0.02 on the matter? I have also tried to find some inexpensive 2' lengths of panduit or the like to use as well, but no luck after a mediumly aggressive search.
Thanks

Hey Ronin, I know this doesnt go with the desk question but, are both your monitors hooked up to the same pc? If so is that one wallpaper or 2 different ones? If 2 different ones how did you do it?

You can use two different wall papers by setting the second one up as an active desktop item, and dragging it to the second monitor and selecting "cover desktop". It looks like he may be using UltraMon though (third-party software to do things like that if you don't want to mess with it).

I'm pondering if I should get a Jerker desk, with a bunch of those swivel shelves. I have two questions.
1. Can anyone show me (link?) where to get another long shelf, like the one that goes accross the top.
2. I'm a hardcore racing simluation nut, so will I be able to put my Momo wheel on the contour. Can anyone get me an underneath picture.

I checked the ikea website....They used to have that long shelf on there. i don't see it anymore. It was $30CDN when I bought one.
As far as the steering wheel....if you look at the middle of the curve, underneath and about 1.5 inches back, there is a 1"x1" metal bar supporting the front of the desk. The steering wheel might have some problems clamping on but then again Im not sure how the wheel mounts.

on the one that i have, just the table, there is a metal bar running the length of the table, just 2.5 inches from the front...

Jerkers have to be, really, one of the best economical desks in the world, and, if SNL's weekly update is correct, the president of Ikea, a privately held company, is now the richest man in the world, Bill Gates is now number two.
however, I plan on getting the two level desk for our basement, and set up a hacker's workstation. :D ;) , I'll basically have two monitors setup, a laser printer (if I can get it to work), a switch, a couple computers (looking at three if all goes according to plan, a 500mhz Compaq, a Dual 400mhz Celeron, and possibly a Dual AMD rig), and of course, Curly, the brown bear Beanie Baby.

Anyone of you with the double decker had a real breeze or a sweaty workout like I did getting this peice of metal to go in ?
Right now, I just reassembled and haven't been able to get it in after an hour of trying; dropping a monitor stand (little pedistol piece) on my foot; and seriously getting a gash of blood welling up, argh.
Thanks courtesy of the owner of this pic.
http://www3.sympatico.ca/curtis.tri/jerker.jpg
The last few times that I was able to get it in was not without extreme effort. either I end up bending the damn peice to hell and back, or just major persistant. Right now, I have a lot of chips of metal and paint on my floor because of all the twisting and such. I'd take a picture, but it's ugly and camera is low on battery.
Hope someone can give me some guidance on how to navigate this hunk of metal into its place.
randyc
07-07-2004, 12:31 AM
That peice..
Took me alot of time to get in, when I finally realized it was super simple.
you have to put the little screw on the bar that holds up the wood...
and then in the column, you have to use the long screw going in from the outside towards the inside.
and you have to try it a few times, and make sure the threaded part of the funky piece is on the lower end, and the unthreaded (larger hole) is on the high end, where the small screw goes in.

Like I said, I've done it before. I adjust the height of the main level once every few months, but it's all chewed up to hell now. My problem is that the holes don't line up so I have to bend the metal peice. I might have to buy new ones from Ikea tomorrow. heh, luckily I have an LCD :p
btw, did you put the desk together alone? I do, and it's quite a work out holding and securing the main plank of wood.
It's 1am, and I'm tired not to mention both my thumbs are bruised.

How deep can you get a Jerker. I told my parents I need a desk and a chair and I want to get a jerker I just need to know the deepest in length you can get one because my Viewsonic p220f is a big boy lol. If someone has a link to the jerker specs or knows it off hand it would help. THANKS!! :D

this is definetly a thread from the past, but i would love to see some more pictures of people's jerkers. i am in the market for a new desk this summer, and the jerker is looking like it might be a good choice. it looks massive, i measured my desk, and it is a heck of alot deeper, and quite a bit wider also, i really like the looks of it.
any more pics?

They're great so long as you don't put your case on the desk. I use to have dual monitors and thought it was cramped. Of course, I have a lot of useless junk like spindles of dvd, cds, junk mail, plates, forks, etc. all lying around :D
dual monitors? what size, saw this thread and the desks hit the spot but i got dual 21" crt.... can it handle the weight /size?
Max. load: 165 lb might be pushign it close with the monitors..... needless to say i can;t get on there

Why'd they have to name it "Jerker"? They even have a little space in the front cut out as too ease the use of the desk for it's name-sake. I'm in need of a new desk but it has such an embarrasing name....
Does any have a 2405fpw and uses this desk? I'm not so sure on the width. Looks extremely nice otherwise (aside from that horrible name that was either lost in translation or is just a really bad joke)
edit: those added side shelves are enough to support a full case and it doesn't wobble or feel as though it will fall off with a slight bump or nudge? How wide is this desk? I wanted something that will work for the width of my 2405FPW and leave me room for other things.

Since alot of the pics aren't showing (get bandwidth guys!), I'll explain that there are two jerker models mainly. One that has the front elongated U-shape cutout, and the other that's just a large rectangle.
The U version usually comes with at least one top shelf. Both versions can use the side tray attachment.
At least on the rectangular model, which I have, if you want to install the wire management attachment, you have to drill into the desk. True to IKEA form, there are no predrilled holes, so the quality of that drilling is all your responsibility.
I have the black model and it's very neat and sturdy! I have pics up somewhere already...

I believe it is Swedish and the J is pronounced more like a Y. In German, the word for "yes" is "ja" and the J is pronounced like the Y in yes. It's like that.

Just found an article in german that talks about the names that IKEA uses. Jerker is a Swedish male name. The desks are all named after men, bathroom articles after lakes and rivers, curtains female names, etc.
Very good read, if you can stand the translated version:

I gave up trying to understand when I saw the word "unspektakulaerer" which I believe means some kind of cured meat, but might be something a bit less spectacular.

Anyone know if you can get replacement parts, like extra screws and the plastic caps that go on the ends of the support beams? When I moved the movers "somehow" lost some parts. BTW Just so everyone knows according to Ikea the only "add-on" shelves you can buy are painted silver, not matching any of the wood grains that the main desk is. At least when i bought mine in California.
Hmm... I am suprised that no one mention about the table is not made out of real wood(or wood at all?) and I was kind of dissappointed at it but I still got it anyway. I'll post my desk once I get my new monitor.

Go to Ikea and tell them the parts you're looking for. They should be able to order it for you.

Does the name really matter? I know if I get a new piece of furniture in my house, my friends wouldn't ask me what the specific name of it is...they'd just be like "Nice desk!" Or something like that..
I've seen this desk at ikea and I really like it. There's so many different variations to it though, one with a curve one one side, one that's just a flat desk, one with shelves... so many choices!

yea i always wanted a jerker from waaaay baack in the day but ikea didnt come up to minnesota till the summer i moved into the house i bought and needed to make an extension to the bedroom. well, immediately as we are figuring out how to split up the front porch to make this room and what size the door will be etc, i say look, lets go get the measurements on these jerker desks, cuz if there is one thing thats important to me, a desk has to be wide and DEEP, i hate every desk with a keyboard tray.... real gamers dont use that bs, and i hate desks that may be dep enough but then have drawers built into both side.... im 6'2", i CAN NOT FIT IN THAT SHIT
jerker only for me. originally i woulda preferred the flat rectangle one other folks here have, but then it was TOO wide... for hte room, not for me heh. so the one i have there with the upper shelf and rounded cut was the best bet for depth and width, allowing us to perfectly create the space + the 2 bi 4's and sheetrock + a standard door size purchasable at home depot.
yay for jerkers, i cant belive i never saw this thread before! i wanna take another pic, but that was with my back to the wall. i'll take one from in the other section of the room so it has better dimension.

I think its an older model. It's 30 cheaper and offers more horizontal space than the other jerker though it doesn't have the extended bars to add a top shelf nor does it have the front cut out.

That doesn't mean it's an older version. That's just mean your is a different model. How much did you get yours for? I got the same desk and I got it for $100 three or four months ago.

99 a couple of weeks ago + 10 for the cpu holder + 30 for the shelf and 10+ for the keyboard holder (returned the shelf and keyboard holder), the other jerker was like 129, its kind of narrow imo but I guess makes up for it with the top shelf if you're lacking horizontal space. I can't believe how much they charge for the drawer add on though. $50 when you can buy a seperate much larger stand-alone drawer for the same price or cheaper.
I didn't know they have a shelf for this desk. If you can, could you please provide me with the link to the shelf? Because I don't want to take another hour trip to there without getting anything. Thanks
Edit: But make sure it's for the Jerker that you have though because that's what I have. Thanks

hey guys, i really like alot of your setups and im thinking about ordering a couple jerker desks, but im wondering if any of you have any pix of a corner setup. i have 2 Dell 24's 2405, and they are just too big for the desk i have, but i also need room for my laptop and a place to do writing and reading for college. im thinking a corner setup would be the best because it would mean i would have to move my chair the least to go from one task to another. i really like the look of the tall jeker with the top shelf but im thinking if i get 2-3 of these it will look really dumb when it meets in the corner and if i dont push them together then their will be a big section in the corner that is wasted. does ikea sell a piece that can attach in the corner to put them together?

There's no corner piece per se, but you might want to look at getting the Gallant from Ikea.

Well, I promised a while back I'd post pics of my new Jerker desks when I got them set up. A few months ago I was looking in this thread for pictures, trying to decide if I wanted to buy a Jerker. Since the thread is old, a lot of the pics were dead, so it was hard to get a real grasp of the desk. Now that I have one (two actually :)), I wanted to post a few pics so it can help others see the desks "out in the wild" :D.
It's not yet 100% complete, as I need to move both of my PCs into their new Lian Li V1000 cases (server gets a V1000B that I used on Project Fury, and the gaming rig gets a brand new V1000 Plus), but you can get the idea for now.
I bought 2 of the 63" Jerkers (black), a drawer unit for one, 4 cable management trays (awesome!), 2 shelves, and a desk lamp.
I ran all my network stuff into one of the drawers of one Jerker (Vonage router, my other wireless/firewall/print server, 5 port Gig switch, cable modem). I drilled a hole in the back and velcroed everything up real nice. I mounted 4- and 6-port Isobars on the support columns so I wouldn't have 28 plugs running down on the floor. My Isobars are plugged into my big ass APC rackmount UPS in the corner. One shelf has been setup for my laptop (with Gig-E ran on the underside of the Jerker for big file transfers).
I thought the wire management trays were going to be lame, but they actually work great (once you get past having to drill holes into your brand new desk). As you will see in my pics I have next to no wires showing on the floor, which is amazing once you consider how much equipment I have on these desks. The few wires showing on my main desk will be cleared up as I now have 4 plug liberators for those nasty power bricks. For all those who haven't seen these things, here's a pic:
http://www.cyberguys.com/images/prod_images/p1757a.jpg
I also didn't put my gamepad cable away after playing BF2 last night  so that's coiled up on the desk too. Normally I am quite compulsive about wiring, considering I work in server racks and network closets all day and am tired of miles of cable clutter.
I'm left with one shelf that I will most definitely not use EVER (no room in the way I have the desks set up), so if anyone is interested to buy it, PM me and we can work something out. I live in NY and the nearest Ikea to me is in Paramus NJ, which is quite a hike so I'm not going all the way down there to get $25 back.
Well, enough talk. Here's the pics of my setup:

It depends a lot I guess on what size Jerker you're getting. I got the 53" one (the one without the top shelf) and there was no way it would fit in my Civic, hence, borrowing my dad's truck.

I got the 53" (I think) Jerker and it fit in my 2002 RSX. I had to drop the back seats down and move the front seats up quite a bit. But it fit in there and was no problem.

They're mounted in shadow boxes I got from AC Moore or Michael's (craft stores). The box frames are like 2 inches thick (deep) and they have a velvet background with 2 strips of really sticky double sided tape that keep them flat and secured.

Hello, fellow Jerkers! I'm planning on getting the $99 Jerker (horizontal model, flat) and have a question regarding shipping. Are they still charging insane shipping fees for it? Thanks!

yes it is insane to ship these things, im not sure about the 99$ desk but i know an employee at IKEA told me it would be about $230 JUST to ship the other desk PLUS weight, PLUS the cost of the desk to ship from there store, 5hours to my house
it is not cheap if you buy the desk and ship yourself through FEDEX, UPS, however DHL is much cheaper but still floating around $100 IF you can get the desk to a DHL drop off location, not a drop box location.
I even thought about renting a large car through Enterprise, and that is also around the same price to ship the desk.
I ended up shoving my desks into my Honda Crx, one out of the box and the $99 desk inside the box to make due with room, dont ask me how, I think i got lucky.
It is by far NOT a very good idea to ship these desks, anywhere.

I already started to place my order online. They e-mailed me today saying they were having technical difficulties with their ordering system, so I have to finish the process by phone. I'm actually getting my dad to call sometime this week since he is the one with the credit card. After he hears in the insane shipping fee, I'm hoping that is his motivation to drive me to the Philly IKEA store by the weekend. :D
But I have to ask you this... WHY do they charge so much? The desk I'm on now costed $129 with free shipping.

well i know i loved it and a lot of us did for the DEPTH of the desk. i always owned a 20" or bigger CRT and well.. those dont play well with college dorm desks. but at least dorm desks were all larger than the crap they carry at office stores / furniture stores. so for me it was all about width and depth of desk cuz i got fed up EARLY and began using conference table type desks.
oh and it comes in different colors too.

and i got mine to fit INSIDE a crx, with two people both desks hung out the back till i got them back to the house, then took the jerker tower tesk out of the box, and layed the frontpassenger seat all the way down and put the longer desk all the way up in there, and then layed the pieces of the tower desk in there and it all fit. and then rode home 5hours south like that.

Good to know, that was kinda troubling me also. :p
Frick I can't wait to have the cash to pick up a Jerker...especially because I wanna be switching to a Shuttle XPC in the not to distant future...the desk will look massive with an XPC and 17" LCD. :p

The desk is great, I have it in "beech" (dark brown) and dark metal legs. I love it, but be warned: It's a pain in the ass to assemble

'cause the table version is a snap; took me about 1/2 hour, tops. no weird tools or anything going on, it's "paint-by-numbers", really.
