During install it gives me a status of installation. It shows that I have like 279 meg on CD2 that needs to be installed? It doesn't ask me to installed CD2 at any point.

i'm pretty sure you can ignore that. i think the installer for the multiple cd install is the same as the bootable cd + ftp install, so even though i'd downloading a package from the ftp site, the installer says the package is being pulled off of CD2. i wouldn't worry about it unless you get errors, or can't use a package you are certain you told the installer to include.

Let me just say this has to be the hardest O/S to install. I am on my 12th try and still nothing. It installs and then when it boots up it goes to the prompt but I can't type in the prompt. Just a flashing underscore.

Your wrong there, SuSe is one of the easiest distros to install...now upgrading is a different story sometimes...If you want hard, do Gentoo, a great and powerful distro once it is installed properly, but really like pulling teeth for all except the highly knowledgeable cause you have to configure and complie everything.
I am definatly noob but I have instaled versions 8.0, 8.1, 9.0, and 9.1 of SuSe and each install has been mostly hands off and everything works when it comes up to deskktop and I have installed it on three different systems.
If you want an easy install you might try Yoper, it's a full featured linux distro that installs in about 15 minutes and seems to find everything and works very nice. http://yoper.com
Or, you could try Buffalo Linux which also installs quick and looks very nice at the desktop and will use packages from SlackWare, Debian, and rpms. http://buffalolinux.dyndns.org
