Here is my case. Nothing too special. I know the big mess of wires next to the power supply is bad, but I did hide some behind the motherboard tray and properly routed them through the case. The can fan wires are completely hidden! Wire hiding is much of a big thing for me, just wire management.

Brownie points to those who can find "What is wrong with this picture?" on the computer.

The first picture is the best for understanding what is wrong with something on the front. Probably the hardest to figure out.

The second picture has a close up of the expansion cards, ATI card, IDE card, sound card.

No IDE cable hooked up to the IDE controller card. The drive is currently disconnected for RMA again. The Nexus isn't even hooked up.

an iwaki?

what model?

and how you cut out the alu panels like that?

Hapless
01-04-2004, 07:08 PM
an Iwaki WMD-30RZ-220. 4.4 gal/min and 36ft head. For the panels, cut carefully with a dremel (cutting wheels and drill bits).

snowwie
01-05-2004, 05:35 PM
man, if it wasn't the american motor model, or 220v, I would probably consider getting it, but that may be overkill for a small wc loop. It sure is a really powerful pump.

and really nice job on the artwork on the alu panels, very nice

Hapless
01-05-2004, 06:10 PM
It is 220v, it comes with a 110 -> 220 converter. there's no such thing as overkill.

thanks about the panels

http://www.spatula-city.us/computers/case.jpg

pretty stock so far...its got a WC rad in the bays so that hole sucks through it. pretty much just that and a hole I cut in the back tray for the pumps power connector are the only mods. im not too sure what else I want to do to it, probabily steal my friends drive plates and put the one in, and buy two others and drill them out...I need that hole there for the rad to suck in fresh cold air as my case temp is too high (only one fan blowing in, I want quiet dammit :D).

You would be surprised how much money you can make by mowing lawns and or starting a landscaping business!

Just to let ya know there was this guy that used to cut my neighbors lawn, charged $40. After my neighbor started raving about how great he was, more of the other neighbors started to use him... needless to say he does the entire street... which is about 20 houses.... that's $800 for that day he pulled in... I actually think he upped his prices a tad and is continuing to grow.... props to him for working hard and making $$ :-)

yeah, but then there's the poor 14 year olds who by law cannot get jobs :( and let's face it, mowing lawns is not going to get you a vapor system any time soon.
Hah, when I was 14 I was thinking more like 'when can i get a new bike?', 'lets go to the park!', 'where's ours next soccer game?' not 'when do I get my vapor cooling system?'

Seriously kill_emma, look into sealcoating during the summer (sorry only a month left) I did that for a while (am doing it now for a different guy) but when I was 16 I was making $400 a week under the table (as long as there wasn't any rain days). You can probably make $8 an hour and next summer $9 then $10 and so on. My little cousin (15) works with us some days and we pay him about $8 an hour (all he does is carry buckets and unload the gear, as he doesn't know how to spread the stuff.
Seriously though sealcoaters make a killing, our tank cost $500 and change to fill, we get about 40 $90 driveways done with a tank(would cost homeowner about $110 from Home Depot) So were not rip off artists.

40 x 90 = $3600 (at least)
-500 cost = $3100 income (then he pays me)
$3100 - me = $1 muwahahahahaha

Hey, how do you like that case? I have a PC-82 right now, but I'm considering getting a V-1200..

I went from a pc60 and it was deffo worth the upgrade just to get all the extra space alone, it cools suprisingly well considering its only got a 120mm fan cooling the entire motherboard area, I get 44c/28c cpu/case temps from the system in my sig, and its very quiet. The only problem with it is that you need very long (90cm) ide cables to go from the hard drive area at the bottom to my raid card, other than that I can fault it at all.
The main reason I got it was that things were getting very warm in the pc65 and there was no way I was going to fit some watercooling kit in it, which is my next project.

What can I say, I have quite a bit of disposable income, heck even my linux server is in a lian li. :p

You see the pic of the angled up shot with the tree on the right? See that tiny square hole? I velcroed the inverter there and ran the wire through the hole and zip tied the piece in the 5.25 drive bay out of view. When the window panel is on you can't see the inverter.

I have 4 cathodes in my case, the other inverter is velcroed to the bottom of the case just in front of the left side intake fan between the factory drive cage.

I zip tie the extra wire on the cathode tube and tuck it all in.

Didn't have to extend any wire by I have no switch mounts (they are ugly and useless, I want my UV lights on 100%).

Here's my Lian-li PC-9300. I'm using it as my HTPC. I think it's a really attractive case and blends in quite nicely with other A/V equipment. Only mods to it is the spray painted Sony DVD drive. Sorry I don't have any inside shots of the case. It's rather cramped inside the case and took a little bit of work to get it perfect, but nothing hard to do.

I'm very proud to say that I'm hopefully going to be unveiling my Lian-Li "Perfect Dark" by the end of the month....when she's all painted and back in one peice. I've finished the cuts I needed to do.....as soon as I can pick up a few more "peices of the puzzle" the LiLi is going in for painting.....100% inside and out the case is going to be a nice autobody finish gloss black.....leaving the PCI slot covers, thumscrews, case handles and fan grills chrome.

I've been waiting for so long to show you guys what I'm capable of with my wiring and once the case is back togethor again I'm gonna have some fun myself.....because I've made a few internal modifications to the case to clean things up a bit.

Enough talk.....just thought I'd stop in and let you all know that I'm coming. :D

The 65 is smaller then the Antec/Cheiftec cases....and the 75 is larger then it. The PC6x cases are about 16" tall....the Antec/Cheiftec chasis's are about 18".....and the PC7x Lian-Li's are either 22 or 24". The PC70 is fricken massive....to the point where I'd hate to own one....so much harder to wire things up when you've got 3 times the space to stretch from a mobo header to a cdrom drive in teh top bay.

If all goes to plan i'll have the window in my new pc-61 done this weekend and i'll post pics. Unfortunately i have to wait until my next paycheck to get the rest of the hardware, but with luck i'll have a nice custom case to put it in by then.

Well.....here's my PC60 in the state that it's currently in.....all of the cutting done that I'm doing myself....just gotta get a few more things done to it before the entire thing gets painted an automotive finish black inside and out:

Don't worry about any knicks and burs from the cutting....as the case is being sanded down and painted anyways. I'm quite pleased with how nice I got the cut on the front bezel actually....putting mesh in that rectangle and having it painted with teh case to match perfectly.

http://1stclasspcs.com/uploaded/Picture 010.jpg

Here's the little cut i made so that I'll be able to pass wires straight through to the back of teh case and behind the mobo tray....one design flaw about the Lian-Li PC6x and 7x cases that I really hate. It'll be interesting to see how much that hole cleans things up.

http://1stclasspcs.com/uploaded/Picture 012.jpg

I really do love the window I've got right now and how nicely it was cut with the fan mounted on the back via a kind of epoxy so that I didnt need any screws....kept it very clean looking. That and the Lanparty sicker goes quite well I think. :p

My buddy has a holesaw that I gotta get too....so the stock grills are coming off, a 120mm fan is going up top as a pull fan on my heatercore to blow the air out of the case, and I'm putting a second 80mm exhaust in teh back......and doing aluminum fans, which'll look REALLY nice agains the black case.

I'll keep ya posted on it all for sure, it's gonna one hell of a case.

Good stuff, I like the design. But yeah, needs that sanding. ;)

Tre, I realise that you might be going for a different look, but is there a reason that you don't/didn't install the CCFL on the other side of that metal plate so that it'd like up more of the actual system, and not stick out like a swore thumb with the panel off. :p

The only thing about my case that isn't standard right now is the hole in the side panel. What exactly are you refering too? Note that the only piece of hardware in there right now is the power supply, there's no motherboard yet. Did it look like the tray was near the window with stuff on the other side?

Thought I'd give the gallery a bump....as its on MY 3rd page of threads in my CP, so god only knows how far back it is in the forum listings. ;)

I won't have any pics of my finished case until closer to the end of the year, because I now have my watercooling up and running, but on the 12th I'm getting my Maze4 block for the XT-PE, and the 26th is when I order my 3.2E.

First couple weeks in December I'll be picking up the mesh and stuff for the case and finally getting it painted. I just wanna make sure that I have the actual SYSTEM done before the end of the year, because I have two local LAN's I'm going to in January, and we run benchmark contests.....hehe. ;)

At the same time though I wanna have the case done to have a good shot at the case mod contests too, so you can be sure that the case WILL be done sometime in December.

Still waiting for my Ultra X-Connect Power Supply.

I certainly will do the "WTX"-Mod...

Bro, can you not route all of your SATA cables behind the hard drive cage? it'd clean things up quite a bit, a the fact that the cables are blue makes them stand out even more, and you don't want that if you're going for clean. ;)

koegs

"Cleaner" routing will follow right after the WTX-Mod.

Without the WTX-Mod routing is quite tricky, because the SATA-Connector has a 90° angel.

In fact some of the cables should be seen, because they are uv-reactive...

Well I know where you're coming from on the UV thing, but they should still be hidden to an extent. Hope you clean it up a tad after the mod, and I can't wait to see how the X-Connect works out for ya.

The only time I ever touched that thing is when I un-screwed it and ripped the bugger out of my case, didn't really think much of it. That and I kept bumping my finger on it when I would raise my hand up to press the reset button....so it had to go. :p

Well, mine is a work in progress atm

I've got the window lian li panel, with a BFV Huey applique on it, and UV lights to add, and put the bezel back on eheheh

But exam time atm, then ill start cleaning the cables and hiding them...

but i need thoughts/suggestions as what to do.. possible watercooling? (but i dont wanna spend too much)

My focus is on performance, at very low noise levels,
hence the p4 3ghz with intel heatsink, however it is a prescott so gets hot
(idles around 32-35 degrees and under load goes upto 60)

I moved the intake fans onto other side of bezel, so i can fit my hdds in the bottom cage reverse (less mess visible), i will move the other 2 hdds down there too everntually...

so yeah, constructive comments/ suggestions welcome :)

this may sound nuts, but i found that if you take out the floppy cover, you can slide in a harddrive that'll fit almost perfectly in the space, thus not taking up alot of room.

and koegs, you need to take some pictures of while you're doing the WTX mod, i've thought about doing it for a very long time. It seems so ridiculously easy to do, and the cooling should drop pretty well too.

As soon as i have moved the parts into another case i will start the mod. (Moving will be done tomorrow evening)

I also will add another fan hole in the back (there is plenty of space left on the motherboard tray).

Some other users in the german forum www.lianli-modding.com did the mod and they say it should be done in about 2 hours.

Well, routing of the power cables to the motherboard will be a problem.
The X-Connect power supply got no approval for germany, so no german shop will sell it.

So for now i will stick to the beQuiet 450Watts. Cut the unneeded cables and i will sleeve it.

Yeah, put the hole about an inch or two towards the middle of the mobo in the plate for the ATX cable to pass though and you'll be fine.

Another thing, don't cut the hole for that 4pin P4 plug above it, cut it moreso where I have mine......about an inch BELOW the plug, and run the cable up under the board and out from underneath.

I really wanna get you guys some new pics with the h2O but I got no camera. :(

koegs your wire management is good, and judging by the fact that you are getting an x-connect, i would say that you want as much UV stuff out there as you want. Really, your wires are in spots that wont be annoying or a detriment to the computer's cooling. Well done, and post pics of the UV once you are done with the xconnect and the mobo rotation.

viper had one done. it makes perfect sense in terms of a cooling standpoint, plus it looks different and not alot of people have it (yet...). upon staring at my case forever, it looks like all you'd need to do, is take out mobo sliding rail and move it ot the otherside, cut a couple of holes big enough on the back for it actually slide in, and either cut the harddrive cage, or just remove it. the holes line up and the sides are deep enough to allow for it to happen. if i can find some decent, large pictures on the web of the back and insides i'd post some diagrams.

my only reservations about it are that how is the Video card going to get enough cooling?

exhibit A and B:
http://home.no.net/afenost/uploads/lian-liback.jpg
in this, the red box is where the slots are at stock, it would seem to me that you'd have to make a couple of cuts the same size as the red into where the green would be and you're good
http://home.no.net/afenost/uploads/lian-liinside.jpg
now on this, just move the blue tray slider to the opposite side, you can do this by riveting them out, and drilling holes on the otherside. now, the problem arises in the length of the mobo tray, because it appears on here to extend past the harddrive cage, which is okay for the stock, but i think it bumps into the harddrive cage in the WTX, so ya can either just cut the cage or take it out completely.

i just noticed this: viper has the WTX working (but he sold it he said) but i just noticed the 5.25" floppy he's sporting. wtf mate (http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1026141029&postcount=67)

I my eyes, a mod is not the dertermination that something has been cut with a powertool, or any drastic measures have been made. A mod i simply an alteration of the original design, and can be done by lights / h2o / Phase Change etc etc.
That is simply how I see it.
What would determine a mod ? That a fangrill has been cut out ?

You have to get your hands on a camera, so we can se ;)

I appreciate and respect the fact that we have different viewpoints on this, but yes....to me an actual MOD is something that involves cutting or altering the case itself....personally I see lighting and cooling as additions, and not alterations.....but I look a little to far into some things, and just like to get technical. ;)

I've got a couple friends with digicams so if I can't end up with my own after xmas I'll give one of 'em a call early next month when the mods should also be done. :D

That is a very valid point. I did a "mod" on a Shuttle once, that really have all the waypoints that you would call a mod, but I see your point that these two, are very limited in their complexity, and are to say the least simple as hell to perform.

Yes, two thumbscrews hold in the HDD cage (which can hold a very nice 5 drives) which slides out easily, and once you remove the front bezel of the case (in all of 3 seconds) there are 3 thumbscrews holding in the external 3.5" cage....which then slides out the front of the case.

I'm actually now looking at getting a Z-Chip block for my NB to get rid of that fan....and so that the tubing from the XT-PE can go up to the NB, and then from the NB to the heatercore....which will add another nice looking arc of tube to the case, and will cut down on the length of that length of tubing going from the card to the heatercore right now....looks kinda weird IMO.

You know I just have to laugh at myself. I have had my computer for the last three years with one of these Lian Li Cases just like the one above only in the blue color and I just realized how you are suppose to put the hard drive in the case. That little compartment on the bottom houses the hd, I know this, but I never thought to place the hd sideways. As we speak mine is still humming away horizontal as ever :). I always wondered why it felt odd mounting it to the bottom of the bracket.

I want that pump cuz i'm obsessed with quitness but im scared to buy it after hearing the stories.

Lots of questions :) but looks awesome.

1) Rad is a DTek Pro Heatercore 120mm

2) I can't say a whole lot to try and make you buy it, I've got it clamped shut fairly well with these metal clamps and I have yet to have it leak around any seals. The pump IS 100% silent though....its sitting on the bear metal...and even when you put your ear up against it you can barely hear the impellar.....no vibrations either. ;)

3) Reservoir is a dual-bay 3.5" bayres....I love it, fits and looks great.

4) Below the card is my Vantec Fancard....looks a bit different cus I cut the wires for the LED's......was too bright for me in relation to the rest of the case lighting.

EDIT: If you want, I'll tell you what else I did with the pump that you could also.....to pretty much gaurantee that you won't have any issues. I sanded around the barb a bit to take off the paint and I actually have the barb siliconed to the pump......it's water/airtight....and nothing gets through there, don't see why you'd have to worry about any of the "defects" I've heard of once this's done.

Not bad, but you need some better pics.....and you REALLY need to stealth that drive.

Pick up one of those universal cdrom bay covers with the hinged door and you'll be good to go. Check the front of my rig, you might be able to see it in teh bottom bay.

I have looked for a way to hide my horrid white Lite-On but I cant find one. Where could I get a Lian-Li black aluminum solution?

The only thing I can find that is a Lian-Li solution is silver.

I am going to sell this dvd+rw Lite-On and get a black 16x Lite-On dvd+rw soon probably.
they have them at wal-mart for 60 bux.

The only one I have seen was a coolermaster one and it said coolermaster on it and I did not like that.

Great wiring job, Corn!

Makes me cringe at my wiring. I might have to try rewiring my case this weekend.

hehe, thx. *blush*

You know what's kinda funny though.....the fact that I've improved it even more since I posted up that pic. ;)

Now the black ribbon is completely out of sight, the ATX cable raps under the mobo and our of site immediately, the fancards wire is completely hidden....and there's now more cable running from the top of the case under the board. :D

I'd like to get a newer pic for you guys to shock and amaze ya once again.....but it might have to wait until i get the case powder coated. ;)

yeah, the door on teh bezel is spring loaded......you press teh button and it presses the button on the drive, which causes the door to drop down and the tray comes out. When the drive tray closes the door simply flips shut after it.

I've been using mine for months and I love it.....much easier to use then when I home-made my stealth drive covers. :)

I bought one here: http://www.coolerguys.com/840556007623.html

Good place and nice price, I bought along with the front port cable as well. :)

If I had a lian case I'd diffeneitly use it, looks great and works just as well, but I bought it so I could take it apart and see how I can make one.

Thx bro.......the fan is a 120mm, 38mm thick Delta that (at 12v) puts out 190cfm at 55dBA.....but I've got it running at 7v and it's still pushing about 90cfm and is now in that 35-40dBA range and is much more tolerable.

Gimmie till the end of this month and I'll have pics of my case completely finished....mesh windows installed, and the whole chasis powder coated black.

Well, my LianLi V1000b ist not here at the moment, so i am not able to measure it on my own:

Is the size of 210x490x525mm with or without the wheels?

Or the other way around, what is the size of the side-panel and what radius do the corners have?

I'm pretty sure that the dimmensions of the case are without the casters...but don't quote me on that. ;)

Well, I'm not sure of the radius of the corners/angles at all...but if the case had all right angles it would simply be 490x525mm for the side panel.
