Looking at an Ideq where would the best fan placement be for a fan or two on a 200n?

Well, I have both sides open w/ an 80mm fan on the right side and it makes the cpu temp 10* colder than without the fan and the case being open. And this is a 200N.

The sides open? What with mesh? where on the right side is the fan placed? Do you have a picture? and the right side facing the front of the case or the other way?

I so agree. A 120mm fan looks aweful on the back of a shuttle. Thats why I opted for a 160mm fan on mine!

Why not get rid of them and put in a black mesh or windows where they were?

Too lazy, and I like the look of overkill.

And I already have a few more Comairs around here someplace. Just in case...

I'm not sure if that should be classified as cool or sad.....to have 160mm fans just sitting around your room going unused.

That's almost like saying "Oh yeah, it's cool, but I've got a couple 9800XT's laying around just in case this one craps out on me."

I know these are two different things all togethor but come on dude..........spread the wealth. ;) :p

MPJA is your friend. I bought 4 used 120mm Panaflos and 4 used Conairs for $35 a while back. I have a nasty tendancy of stocking up when I find a deal. One of the Panaflos makes a screaching noise so I threw it away.

Your compairing $35 in used fans to $450 videocard. Classify it as sad if it makes you feel any better.

What kind of mod would you guys consider to help keep my video card from killing my HDD. I've toasted 2, yes 2, WD120G 8M cache drives due to heat. The 9700 pro just gets to dang hot with the cover on.

I was thinking of opening up the side with the video card on it, with perhaps some vents on top to help let the heat out. What do you [H]ard core modders think?

Strange, I never had any problems with my 9800XT in my XPC temp wise. Even with my normally toasty Seagate sandwhiched in there everythign was just fine.

I just took the cover right off when things got a little to warm for comfort but you might consider cutting a nice "window" infront of the card and covering it in modders mesh or something.....at least then the card'll be able to breath. ;) :p

I'm pretty sure it was heat related, as i had two of the same drive fail with the same symptoms. But only after playing RTCW:ET for around an hour or so. The computer ran fine for hours and hours doing routine stuff. As soon as i started pushing the envelope 3D graphic wise is when it would fail. And the case got mighty dang hot right next to the video card.

One easy mod to do is use a pair of tin snips or a dremel to remove the grill covering the ice cooler in the back of the shuttle. And replacing that fan with something better is always a good idea. If you can stand it, a tornado fan would definately keep that sucker cooler.

Except it won't fit unless you put it outside the case. The "cage" inside the case for the fan only supports up to 25mm fans, not 38mm beasts like the Tornado.

Does gettin that fan out require removal of the whole damn cooler?

I am thinking about getting a shuttle in the near future. Would it be possible to cut a hole in the top of the case and stick an 80mm fan in it? The only reason I ask this is because they are pressed for room and wonder if the cdrom would take up so much of the space that there wouldnt be any room for anything like that.

Icewindius
02-28-2004, 01:46 AM
It depends on how big the CDrom drive is. In my case, the Plextor 708A is to big and there is no room for a 80mm fan. Really blows...

The Lite-On drives are very small. If you plan on doing that mod, definately look at a Lite-On.

Yeah, I really like the size of my LiteOn drives.....but I'd be eventually be picking up the 708A if I went with a shuttle anyways so meh. :D

I finally got my mod done, turned in for a "cube" PC contest, and won a prize. theme is flying toaster, like the one we used to know for Mac screensaver.

Outer shell is shaped by sculpturing balsa woods and FRP reinforcement, painted silver paint and stainless sheet for extra "shinyness." Turn nob adjust the intensity of the red LED inside.

the finish quality wasn't best i could do. I am going to refine it on my next vacation. Hope you guys like it.
