That's hurtin' dude..........I feel for ya.

After owning my fair share of non-overclocking motherboards, I know just what it's like to be denied of something that vital.

New build here. About the only interesting thing with this was that this AMS gMono case has very poor air intake. I combatted this by cutting a hole in the bottom for a 92mm fan and raising the feet so I've got about 3/4 inch clearance off the table. Seems to be working well thus far.

Damn man, throw some more cards in there so it looks like you've got a real system. ;) Onboard is boring. :p

What you have run into is one of the main reasons you really have to watch what you buy with pre-mods.....many of them are made with only esthetics in mind and not functionality, a big no no in my books.

Sheesh, I finally saw a PC70 in person for the first time this weekend at a LAN.....didn't really realise HOW big/deep they are. I guess it's one of those things that you really have to see to appreciate/believe.

I'll be getting pics of my Scorpio case (which has been in use for some time now, just no pics) here and the full desk shot in the workstation thread.....It's alright but nothing outstanding. I guess you could say I'm starting to appreciate pre-mods.

 ;)

Same here regarding the PC70, the first thing that tipped me off that it's more than just TALLER, is the drivecage, which holds 6 vertically mounted hdd's across, compared to the pc65's 5 hdd's... looks COLOSSAL

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it was just mostly the drive bays that "threw me off" compared to some other cases. You've gotta admit though, it does seem a lot deeper then usual boxes. I'm not sure if it is at all but.......... GOOD GOD!!!

I agree, very original. I love how it all blends togethor and looks really natural. Now what you've gotta do is sleeve EVERYTHING in the case in green or purple with the opposite color heatshrink.....that'd rock.

Umm, I can definitely see a few of 'em.....even from that top angle there. It just makes everything uniformed and simple. If I'm going for a color scheme of say.....blue/red in my case, I sure as hell don't want a whole bunch of white and yellow wires dangling around. Even the fact that I can maybe see them hidden at the top is bad enough.

Sleeving is the final step towards a perfectly done wiring job.....bare wires look messy enough in their own IMO.

Knuxed, why does the top left hand corner of your case look foggy? And what kind of fans are those, because they almost look like they aren't there, though better judgement tells me you must have some sort of intake/output fans on the back?

I'm guessing it's just an insanely smudged window.....something I could never stand. ;)

What do you mean it doesn't look like they're there.....I see 'em. Maybe you just goin' crazy. :p

Heh, now you've got two things to do, sleeve those wires and clean that darned window. Make sure you've got some free time when/if you do the sleeving 'cus it can take forever if you're not prepared.

I guess if a person likes their case then that's all that matters but IMO, all those case badges, window molding, and white drives kinda bring down the look of the otherwise beautiful YY-0221.

Props to you for putting up with this huge behemoth of a case (I love mine) but I would have probably done quite a few things differently with those mods.

However, this is what makes case modding great, the variety of people and cases involved is simply astounding.

I had no other way to mount the windows than with molding.

The white drives are a bad point, I know. But I wanted windows with Panaflo's so I put them in. Honestly, I always thought my windows looked good. The case badge thing was just for fun.

cornelious0_0

I had no other way to mount the windows than with molding.

What about just epoxying them to the inside of the side panel??? That's how I've always considered doing it, saves a lot of extra cutting in some cases and is a lot easier to do. They're just two completely different looks for windows. Some prefer one, some go for the other.....no biggie.

The white drives are a bad point, I know.

Yeah, but with a door on the case, beige drives are AS bad.....you don't leave the door open 24/7.

I wanted windows with Panaflo's so I put them in.

I never said anything about the fans being a bad idea but why did you put them on at an angle like that??? It would have looked a little more even IMO if they were square with the edges of the window/case.

Honestly, I always thought my windows looked good. The case badge thing was just for fun.

I never said they didn't look good.....and yes, the case badge thing WAS kind of silly. ;)

Still a nice case overall, I love my YY.....it'll sure be hard to give her up.

OCTech
03-09-2004, 09:27 PM
Had to put them like that, the YY has the cross bar and the metal floppy bays and the fan wouldn't have cleared the other way

I took the door off because it just gets in the way. (I am sure you know, your a YY owner)

I put Panaflo's all the way around because I hate noise with a passion.

Ah, ic.....I guess they're alright like that then. ;) :p

Yeah, well.....it's not the fact that it just gets in the way.....but the fact that the whole case is heavy duty steel and the door is that cheap plastic. I don't typically mind doors on cases but the YY's door is too flimsy and awkward NOT to be a pain.

Heh, noise doesn't bother me a whole lot. I've never really had a silent computer though so I guess I don't really know what I'm missing.

Yeah, it's just that some heatsinks work better with it one way and others perform better with the opposite.....that's all. ;) :D

And how was it??? I know some people prefer the fan to be sucking OFF the heatsink with a lot of Swiftech heatsinks but I wasn't sure about Thermalright SLK's. I much more like the idea of having the fan blowing ON the cooler with an intake feeding air into the fan but hey..........that's just me. ;)

It works a lot better blowing on the heatsink, atleast 3 degrees Celcius cooler.

Oh I know.....it is VERY possible. I actually like what one of my friends has done to/with his Xaser2 (that I sold him ;) ).....looks quite nice.

There are always places to go with things and different options available, it's just finding the ones that fit your needs/situation that's the tricky part. Especially if you're dealing with a pre-mod. :)

there's only one version of that X-Super Alien case so if you've got the same case is SHOULD fit. There are some full towers that ARE slightly taller then others though so what you're saying would make perfect sense if you had something else that was maybe, a couple inches taller.

Not sure though, what have you got EXACTLY???

Yeah, no kidding.....

If the mods thought there was anything wrong with this I'm sure they'd already be all over it. There's no need to try and tell us that what we're doing is wrong, especially if you don't have the authority to do anything about it.

Be nice.....we're talking ABOUT the cases at least. ;)

Then I'd say the mods really need to crack down on some of those gidelines. I'm afraid that this thread'll be about half the size if they actually start to enforce that.

I'm not saying it'd be a bad thing, I just think that it would have already happened if they were gonna go to the trouble of removing every, single, comment.

First off, welcome to the forums dude.....second, this's kinda the wrong place to be asking that. Try PM'ing the guy next time or go post up a question in the Mainboard forum.....where you'll find answers a lot faster. Most of us don't really plan on coming this thread to answer questions.....just to gawk. :D

To Vonkhan, nice "in your face" rig you've got there. I really love the fan grills and I saw the link on the front page of [H] a couple days ago.

Props to hardforum for sending bonzanego out on his own into the real world to make some bling bling off his mad modding skills and show the public what kind of good stuff we've got rollin' in here.

You go bonz.....you always amazed me in the forums with your worklogs.....it's nice to see you making a name for yourself.

Actually it is clean, the tank is plastic and is old so its been stained. I had just cycled the water before taking the picture actually.

Yea it is.. The backboard thats sitting behind is also meant for support, unfortunately a switch to turn on my light would be covered up if i put it together. I actually didnt notice it bending as much until i took the picture.. It's really not as bad as it seems.

This InWin is probably one of my favorite cases of all time. It's small, tears apart easily into various bits, and the drive cage is very easy to remove.

Stuff I've done:

Replaced power button with key-switch.
Tore sidepanel apart & added window.
Shoved in 12" Blue Cathode.
Glued a 80mm panaflo under the drive cage.
Tore out the stock fan-mesh at the back, slapped in another 80mm Panaflo.
Cleaned up my cables.

http://files.sworded.net/images/casemod/caseside_tn.jpg (http://files.sworded.net/images/casemod/caseside.jpg)

Ignore the ghetto-cut of the window, been 3 years since I took a Dremel to a case. Plus I was too lazy to use a ruler.

Specs:

Soyo K7VME or something ($50 rebate means I don't have to care)
AXP 2500+ @ 2800+ with shitty stock HS[F] (51c max load. Everyone wanted to know, I'm sure)
256mb Crucial cheapo-RAM
Semi-broken WD 80Gig 8meg cache (!!!)
Key switch.

Enjoy.

I just got my Lian-Li done (custom window/fan cut for the side panel) but I won't have pics for a little bit. I had to wait overnight as we're trying to see if the Silicon will hold the Lexan to the Aluminum. The 120mm intake is also going to be "glued" to the inside of the panel with silicon.....which will give the panel a very "clean" look.

I can't wait to show you all my baby.....I guess I'll have to clean up the wiring first, time to get to those voltmods pretty soon today. ;)

DRJ1014, nice case but it pains me to see factory punched fan grills like that. Take the time to cut 'em out if you can and you'll REALLY increase your airflow. I like how the alien grill blends into the case like that.

henesseynalert, I can't see the front of the card but do I see some Vantec Iceberq4 ramsinks? :p

get wire cutters and cut them out and just get a flat fan grill to cover the edges up :)

That can be done later.....it'd be far more worth it to at least get them off now.....I've had grills that bad before and I think you'll be more then pleased with the increased airflow and decreased noise from cutting them out.
