I'm thinking of buying a Razer Lycosa. How are they for those who have em? Are they as good as the G15s or what?

I have one and love it. Never owned a G15 so I can't compare the two. The tactile low profile keys might not be for everyone but I find them very comfortable for normal typing as well as gaming. Unfortunately it is a major dust magnet, it is an issue for some people. The only real negative for me is sometimes the touch sensitive media keys could be better. Quality feels good but I don't expect it to last as long as my old Saitek Eclipse did.

Get the Lycosa mirror, as the original Lycosa had a lot of problems if you read the reviews (don't know if all the problems are fixed in the latest batches).
Razer products can sometimes have iffy quality... so go with the mirror as you'll have a better chance to not have any problems. A friend of mine just recently got the original Lycosa and he had some problems with one of the keys not working.

I had the same issue with my Lycosa. The first one I bought had a bad spacebar. The second one has been solid so far. Both were non-mirror versions.

I've enjoyed mine. If you want it for the backlight then definitely don't get it, it only works well in total darkness, but that was the reason I wanted a backlit KB cause I'd have to feel around for keys when gaming. In the light you can't even read the keys, everything just looks black so you have to know your keys.
The main reason I got this over the G15 was the length, my kb pullout is 30" and I like to have the most mouse space as possible, the extra keys on the G15 wouldn't have given me enough room. Also I believe, but someone correct my if I am wrong, on the G15 you can only macro the specified macro keys, whereas on the Lycosa you can customize every single key, and have multiple profiles with different layouts, something that has become a necessity for me in this day where shitty console ports don't even allow you to map keys to anything but the default.
Best part was ebay or paypal F'd up and somehow I never even got charged for mine, so even if I did have a problem with it I can't complain.

I may have to take my chances with the original one. The mirror lycosa just looks ugly.

ive had mine for about 2 years and its never skipped a beat i have the original and its never has any problems so i wouldnt worry too much about that the WASD cluster lighting is pretty useless imo but someone could fine a use for it the keys are good an readable with the lights on but if you turn them off then the keys are basically unreadable no matter what the lighting but what really sold me on it was the feel of the keys so it gets my recommendation :D

Best keyboard i've ever had. I previously owned a G15, but it was so bulky and ridiculous looking. I love the sleek look of the Lycosa and the keys are really nice.
Agreed on the touch controls, though. They are a little wonky, but work.

thats supposed to translate to "It sucks my spacebar is not working." But seems be most of the keys near the WASD cluster are not working. These keyboards officially SUCK my BALLZ. Go for a G15. The onnly PRO of this keyboard is its looks...

There's only one real question you need to answer to determine if you would like the Lycosa: do you like low-profile laptop style keys? If yes, then you will like the Lycosa. If no, you will hate it, because that's basically its only defining attribute to separate it from other keyboards.

No. Get the Logitech illuminated keyboard instead. Same type of keyboard, but way, way better overall. Two of my Lycosas broke before I bought this thing, and I don't regret it one bit.

cc the other thread:
Loved having a Sidewinder x6 keyboard, it just felt good all around and I was upset when I sold it for a Razer Lycosa.
Lycosa is downright disappointment for the price I paid for it. Keys have barely any travel, can't tell when you're pressing it, feels like goo even when clean, the touch sensitive volume/lights are so close together hitting one hits 3 of them at the same time, the lighting is uneven, and the rubber finish attracts and shows dust like you wouldn't believe. Not to mention the shitty rear push up thingies fell off the 2nd day I had them, since they are so small they were instantly lost, so it feels like I'm typing on a wooden desk.
Overall it's a 3/10 just because you can re-map any key on the keyboard to a macro, but I honestly rarely use that feature.
Darn you style and having a red-LED keyboard and a blue-LED case

I had one up until about a year ago and something went bad and 3 rows of keys stopped working... I loved it up until it crapped out on me. Id recommend it... but I want to get the new mirror edition one... looks much better than the original. Id say its worth the money! GET ONE!

I bought the illuminated keyboard and it works awesome... excecpt im having issues with the space bar registering if i tap in on the side... u have to hit it square in the middle for it to register... but other than that... also a good keyboard!

The lycosa is a good keyboard, got mine refurbed from WOOT about 8 months ago.. I wish the keys had a bit more tactile feedback and the lights were a bit brighter.. In a room with the lights on the keys can be hard to see.. But ghosting is never a problem..

I went from a G15 to a Lycosa. I am not disappointed, though I must admit they both feel completely different. It takes a while to get used to the Lycosa, but once you are, it's wonderful.

Can anyone confirm that they fixed the problem with keys not working in the mirror edition? I loved the original Lycosa I had, but my gf spilled a glass of wine into it
Bought a replacement 2 days ago and half my keys don't work half the time. Kind of hard to play l4d2 without the 'e' and 'r' keys or the spacebar. I'm going to take it back, but I don't really want another one that does the same thing so I might try the mirror edition.
For info on what's causing the problem in the original Lycosa's, check here (http://www.artage.de/2008/03/10/razer-lycosa-problems-and-how-to-fix-them/) . I haven't actually tried doing this, but I might have to if the mirror edition has the same problem. This keyboard just looks too sexy next to my deathadder to replace it with anything else.

If you like the laptop key design, also consider an Apple Wired Keyboard. It's cheaper than both the Razer Lycosa and the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (although it's not backlit). I can do 160 WPM on this keyboard.
The location of the function keys is also good. On a "normal" keyboard, including the G15, the function keys are arranged in clusters. On the Apple one, they're just next to each other. It's a lot easier to press F5 to vote on AA3 and move around at the same time (using the WASD keys) than on any other keyboard I've tried.

Used one for a little over a year now. As far as build quality goes, not the best. It's structurally not that strong, and bends and creaks a bit. The keys are louder than they could be, and keypresses aren't very solid.
Unfortunately, I also got a model that was between their first batch that was full of bugs, and a third batch which was pretty much bug free. They offer complete replacement keyboards on any of the original models with a certain serial number, but not on the second set. Occasionally, keys will simply stop working, or will keep on repeating (sucks when you're in the middle of a game and an important key either stops working, or you begin to turn in circles continuously :p ) To fix it, you unplug it from the USB port and stick it back in.
