Hey guys.
I'm new to the PS3, so I have been downloading a whole bunch of demos from the Playstation store, and I have found that some of these demo's have some serious sound issues, where the sound will have various glitches, or drop outs.
At first i thought it was my system, until a friend of mine said his did the same thing with the same demos, on his setup.
Searching on-line on this subject has yielded some interesting information in that some older games did indeed have such serious sound bugs.
Supposedly the people who experience this are those that use either the optical out, or HDMI for sound, and have it connected to a home theater receiver, and play in surround sound.
( My PS3 slim is connected with optical out into a surround sound receiver ).
Here is a (short) list of what games/demos i have found so far that have sound bugs / glitches / drop outs etc..
Please feel free to add to the list if you have also experienced such issues on any games or demos. Thanks.
Condemned 2: sound glitches at various times during the demo (retail with patch works fine).
Fracture: sound glitches, and sound drop outs (all sound is lost).
FUEL: occasional small sound drop outs

Very weird, I've had my PS3 for 2 years and haven't had any sound issues with either demos or games. I never played the Condemned 2 demo though.

Whats your setup like?
Are you connected to a surround sound receiver with optical or HDMI sound output?
Have you tried any of the other games?
I added another demo to the list confirmed to have small sound dropouts

That's weird. I haven't had any such problems with my PS3... although my sounds setup is a bit odd. I have the RCA sound output hooked up via adapter to an Edirol UA-25EX USB audio interface and use a low-latency ASIO driver to route it through my computer speakers. The worst I get is distortion, and that's only when my levels are improperly set. Never any dropouts...
Maybe this is an issue with the HDMI sound output and certain receivers? What's your specific configuration?

Yes that sure is a strange way to setup your sound from your PS3.
And yes, as i mentioned these sound issues are confirmed only on systems that use optical or HDMI output for sound, into a surround sound home theater receiver.
So since you use RCA cables you would not experience these issues.
I dont kow how you would get Dobly digital or DTS 5.1/ 6.1/ 7.1 etc.. from your setup, since you mention using RCA output which is only stereo 2.1.
My configuration was listed in the original post.

You are correct, I only use 2.1. I actually meant to ask what specific receiver are you using?

Force unleased had no sound for me when I tried the demo way back when. there was another one, might have been condemned 2 but can't be sure It has happened once or twice. I've used both optical and straight HDMI into my Onyko sr607
PS just remembered. it was Haze.

I dont remember the exact model off the top of my head, however it is a Pioneer 7.1 Surround sound receiver, with several hundred watts of output power, and which supports pretty much all available formats out there.

ok well i tried both demos suggested.
I had no issues with Force Unleashed, so maybe they fixed their bugs and are now releasing a newer demo then when you first tried it.
The Haze demo did have the occsional sound glitch however it occured in sequence with overal game lag so i did not really notice it on this game either.
Also i actually bought Condemned 2, and the full game automatically installs a patch, which has actually fixed the sound issues. So the sound issues are only present on the Condemned 2 demo, and not the retail game.

I am using the optical output to my home theater amp. I've played pretty much every PS3 exclusive title and have had no issues. I've only tried a handful of demos though.
