View Full Version : Getting a new SSD, should I keep it?

I got tired of my OCZ Core V1 causing issues when resuming from standby. OCZ was supposed to replace it with a V2, but they're out of stock. I called them up today, and they're going to try to give me an OCZ Agility (Indinilinx controller), if not, than a Solid. I'm hoping for the Agility, as I'm not a fan of the JMicron controller.

If I get a Solid, I'll be selling it immediately. If I get the Agility, though, I may look at replacing my 320gb 7200rpm secondary drive in my Thinkpad.

Can anyone tell me how these SSDs fair in virtualization? My Thinkpad primarily runs VMWare which has lots of writes, and also games which require no writing, off the secondary drive. And, if the Agility does perform better, does it perform significantly better, or just marginally?

I don't know about current SSD's really but wouldn't want the JMicron controller...

the Corsair p128 looks like by far the best SSD right now...if it was less expensive I would probably get it but I'm just going to keep waiting to replace my old raptor...

I wouldn't accept anything less than a non JMicron-based SSD. If you get a JMicron-based SSD, I would call up OCZ and demand a functional product, because in my eyes, a JMicron-based SSD is fundamentally flawed.

I have no intentions on putting a JMicron device into use on any of my systems. Like I said, if I get the JMicron powered Solid, that sucker is heading on eBay or Craigslist immediately. I asked them for a non-JMicron, even if it means I get less storage. Did that in the original RMA, and when I called them today to check why I hadn't seen a replacement drive after 2 weeks. I'll find out tonight what they're giving me.

I already have an Intel X25M as my primary drive in my Thinkpad, so I (almost) know what a good SSD can do (curse you Lenovo on limiting the (x)60 series!).

I'm not looking at picking up another drive, I'm getting whatever OCZ gives me to replace my V1, so suggesting other drives doesn't help me.
