I have a second WHS machine setup, but I cannot setup another WHS to back it up using the internal tools. I tried using SyncToy, and it worked but is was incredibly slow (1/3 of normal network throughput), which for multiple terabytes is just painful.

How would you go about backing up one WHS to another WHS? How do those of you with large servers back them up? As a note, the backup will not have file duplication turned on, and I have another system to backup critical files offsite that is already in place and working fine.

Has everyone given up on WHS, or does no one back up their data?

Most all of us here love WHS.

Keep checking back, Ockie will be able to answer this.

Well I ran into a similar situation when I was first testing WHS as a beta two years.

What I first did was synctoy....but as you have realized it is slow, and once you have terabytes of data it just doesnt work.

What I do now.
So I bought more drives and replaced old drives with larger drives so I could consolidate to 1 box, and I have enabled duplication for everything.
I have one external that I still use synctoy with for Unreplaceable files...family photos etc....Kept offline.
I also use FlexRaid and have another external that I use a a parity drive. Parity for the whole server is stored here. Kept Online.

I also have the hard copies of all my movies in a box....so if I have to rerip I can.

I dont know if this would work....but it might be worth checking out.
Maybe you could use Server2003's DFS with replication? Ive never used it but it might could work?

Hopefully Ockie will have better suggestions as he runs multiple WHS's
