Just got the drive today. The install went fine but when it tried to boot. It gave the error "A disk read error occured"
I been told that you should use the SSD in AHCI mode.
What do I need to do to get this to work?

Change the settings for the SATA controller in the BIOS and try again. There is the potential issue of it being a bad SSD just like a hard drive can be "brand new" and yet be defective out of the box, also. Rare but, hey, anything can happen...

Just installed windows 7 RC1 64bit on it with no problems. So the problem is vista. Anyone thats installed vista on an intel SSD how did you do it?
Did you use AHCI or something else?

The only difference between Vista and Windows 7 in terms of how they're installed would be:
- Windows 7 creates a small 100MB boot partition for recovery info/some necessary files, then another partition which takes the rest of the space on the drive (unless you specify a size, of course).
- Windows 7 has far more drivers (and more current ones) for more ATA/SATA controllers so, there could be something to that also.
Considering the mobo you're using, that's the first thing I'd start looking at, and perhaps downloading the latest SATA drivers for the controller on the mobo, putting them on a USB stick, then going at Vista once more but instead of letting it use the default drivers (which could be where your problems are coming from), use the installer's ability to read that USB stick and manually load those latest drivers.
Good luck...

This is your fix.
One of my media PCs has a south bridge that the base MS AHCI driver for Vista didn't like. I had to supply my driver during install even though it appeared to see my drives correctly.
The MS Windows 7 RC base AHCI driver works with it just fine.

That fixed it. Downloaded newer drivers from asus.
Thanks
