Anyone here had any experience with the latest areca 1680ix-12 cards connected to the supermicro mobile rack M28E1 expander backplanes????

I have 2 of the backplanes filled completely with 16 seagate 74gb 10k.2 sas hard drives
Until very recently I have used them all in Raid 0 connected to an LSI8888elp card with no problems and was producing a shade under 1gb/sec read throughput.

The card died and I decided I might as well use the downtime to upgrade to the areca card since I am planning on running a pair of them for the extra bandwidth.

If anyone else owns one (or 2) of these backplanes and runs it on an areca card I would love to hear about it.

I can only use 1 backplane with 3 of the 4 connectors attached.
plug in all 4 and the adapter freezes at boot time with the "waiting for firmware to become ready"

same goes if I try connecting the other backplane.

If I hot plug the second box when it's booted into windows it gives weird mixed results similar to what happens if you connect both of the boxes to a perc5i adapter i.e. it thinks the second box contains the same drives as the first box and it treats it as the secondary sas ports.

Help.

p.s. my motherboard is an Asus P6T6 WS Professional and I have disabled the other onboard marvel sas/sata interfaces. I just have a single 7800GT nvidia card in the first pci express slot.
I bought the areca with the 2gb memory upgrade and battery backup factory installed and it has the latest bios/firmware BIOS:1.21D F/W:1.46

Thanks
