Ok so i put this here only because it is a drive question... so we will see..

my new machine (to me new)
is a HP Professional workstation
2 x P4 3.2ghz xeon
4gb ram (ddr2-3200)
onboard sata 2 (raid)
onboard scsi (raid)
cd rom - already swapped in a dvd burner
$250 shipped from fleebay...

anywho...
I put a 1tb and 500gb sata drive in..
but I want to have raid setup so I dont have to worry about loosing data (unless I loose both drives)...

so I just priced scsi drives from newegg.... $900ish will get me 3x300gb drives... for 600gb useable space...

since I already have a 1tb drive.. i could buy another identical drive for $85

or replace with 2 - 1.5tb drives for $260ish....

so im on a tight budget..... and my thinking is buy another 1tb and mirror... keep important files on that...

then get a add in sata card that supports raid......add 3 or 4 1tb sata drives and run them in a raid 5....

so finally the question what sata raid controller would you recommend? I have PCI and PCI-X slots available

ebay the scsi drives, they are dirt cheap.

however, are you looking for performance oriented or simply bang for the buck with drive redundancy?
