I just called Xbox support and talked to an American! I didn't think it was humanly possible!
Course, after she helped me with the 1st problem I got transfered to another guy who is (literally) as dumb as a rock. He doesn't believe me when I tell him that the new Jasper Arcade consoles have built in 256MB units...

I used to work at the Xbox support, and IIRC, there were only 2 americans; there was another one but I think he left or something.
And yeah, I totally agree, most of the representatives have absolutely NO idea about in-depth technical info of the console... whether they're american, canadian, or whatever :P

It was pretty bad, it took me maybe 10 mins to get my first question answered by the American, then she transferred me to some foreign guy and it took 30 mins of him knowing nothing before he transferred me to his supervisor.
I bought a Jasper Arcade model and I knew it had 5 pre-installed games on the memory unit and they were deleted, apparently if that happens you're out of luck, they can't help you re-download them or whatever.

Its hard to find an American company any more with CS who can speak fluent English. Most of the time it takes 30 minutes just to understand what should have been a two minute conversation....Dell is the worst.

QFT... Most of my customers complained about my other coworkers not being as articulate and fluent as I am. Stuff you can solve in less than 5', they took 20', for instance...
BTW, OP, have you tried to return your console to the store?

This is pretty much the case with anything these days. Computer companies, ISP's, banks, service companies, etc.
I tend to just keep asking to speak to a manager over and over. Eventually you'll get transferred to someone who at least speaks the language natively.

No, I actually bought it used, although I was the guy who erased it, didn't take that into account :-/
The original owner had his CC info tied to his account though, I wanted to get rid of it.

Ow man you don't know what the 10th level of hell is like until you've spoke to Dell's customer support.

I had to call DHL tech support from work and I'll be damned if I didn't speak to an American person. That call went extremely well (not being sarcastic).

You lie!! DHL is the most useless shipping service in history!! Literally, of the 3 packages that have been sent to me via DHL one was stolen, one was left on my doorstep and opened/rummaged through, and the third was damaged. I'll NEVER go DHL again.

Hmmm then the possibility for you to get those games are slim to none... I say forget about it.
Even the sups are going to tell you the exact same thing I'm telling you :P
Anyhow, did u check if the console is still covered by the warranty (which I believe is waaaay more important)?

Yup, I called them with the serial # before I purchased, plus he had the receipt. Purchased at the end of February, extended the warranty today (the first reason I called).

Good, you're safe :)
Word of advice: I used to advice my customers to register, and file their repair orders thru the Xbox website (http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/LiveIDSignIn.aspx?redirectUrl=http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/registerdevice.aspx?step=register), that way you won't have to deal with those mumbling meat robots anymore lol
Just call them as a last resort and you'll be fine...

I tried doing that today, it says it is already registered to "someone else" (which I assume is me since I had everything switched over to my name on the phone). It won't let me link it to my gamer tag.

I've called them twice and talked to an american both times...the first was a lady who didnt seem to have much of a clue about what she was supposed to be doing and the second was a guy who sounded like he was just a little bit high but both were distincly US citizens...

Ok then what happens is either the email address you're using is wrong or maybe the email address of the previous owner is still in there and it's blocking you. For that matter, you'll have no other choice but to call them and tell them you'd like to update your console registration information (which is NOT the same as your Gamertag info).
But WAIT!! Before you go any further make sure you ask the previous owner about when he registered the console, because in order to change his info for yours, you need to confirm all his info (address, phone number, etc)...
Let me know how it goes!

My first time calling Xbox support I had this really cool american lady. She was talking about all the upcoming games coming out and we had a nice conversation on online games and future games while trying to fix my problems. Second time though was a mess, I got some guy who had no clue on the Xbox console and couldn't speak english.

That happens because most of their supervisors don't train their agents well enough, and when you ask them what the "E74" error code means, they have no clue about it... I actually went ahead and helped my sup to increase our QA scores by setting up training sessions about specific topics (for instance, NOBODY had an idea of what WMC does for the customer and how to set it up properly... and I'm probably sure nobody still does, which pisses me off )

I just bought a Jasper Arcade. It did not come with 5 pre-installed games. It did, however, come with those 5 arcade games on a disc. They cannot be installed. I was under the impression they would be pre-installed, but I don't think they actually do that. They just give you the disc.

Nono, I already registered the console in my name, that step is done. I did that when I bought it (I was on the phone with them). No gamertag whatsoever involved. When I called back today to extend the warranty I used all my info (which was correct). It still won't let me link it though to my gamertag.

Every email in a support conversation I had regarding an Axim a few years ago was signed with:

We want our service make you smile
I smiled, but probably not for the reason they were aiming for...

That's pretty weird, man... you should be able to access it just fine... unless someone mistyped your email address (which happens all the time, trust me on this one), there shouldn't be any problem (IIRC, it's been a year since I left)
Maybe all what they have to do is check an option to let you access your console info thru the website and that's it... just call them and ask them :P

MS actually does somewhat decent with hiring customers service employees that speak English fluently. From my calls, I would say 40% have spoken English well, which sadly impresses me after calling some of the other electronic companies, like Dell.
