Hey guys. I hope this is the right section for this. I bought a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934 a couple of months ago when my desktop died. After a couple weeks of using it I noticed that the fan vent on the left side of it was blowing some hella hot air out. So I downloaded HW Monitor and realized I was reaching temps from 50 C (idle or surfing the internet) up to 90 C. Is there a problem with Toshiba's line of laptops or is there something I'm doing wrong?

When it reaches 90 C is it on cloth or some sort of material that blocks vents if there are any on the bottom?

What are you doing when it reaches temperatures that high, also just surfing the net? I can't imagine a couple of months use building up enough dust to clog anything but having a can of compressed air around doesn't hurt.

no. its sitting on a desk. and that specific i was playing a computer game, but it still shouldnt be going that high, should it? and isn't idling at 50 C kinda high?

My ASUS G1S-A1 hits 90c at load too, and I definitely can't cover the vent with my hand without causing some awesome burns.

A solution is to use Notebook Hardware Control (http://www.pbus-167.com/) or to just configure your power profile to limit the CPU at 40% or something. Doing this really cut back on the heat for me and the fan no longer hits full leafblower speed.

Some laptops also allow you to undervolt the processor to cut back on temps. In the end though, 90c is pretty high and if your warranty is due to expire you might want to get it checked out. I stress tested mine by folding 24/7 for about a week, and it has been fully stable.

My Asus M51SN also gets to about 90C at load, I have always been wondering about this as well. I've been playing games on it for about a year an no problems so far.

no RM clock is way better.. it will allow you to control your voltages and how your cpu re-acts to certain loads.. and im guessing you have an AMD processor in that laptop and using vista.. since vista has ZERO support for cool 'n quiet.. you rm clock to manually control the multiplier and what voltage it uses at which multiplier..

http://cpu.rightmark.org/download/rmclock_235_bin.rar

i have a Toshiba satellite laptop as well with a amd turion x2 TL-60, before using rmclock it sat at 50C idle 90C full load.. i then used RM clock to change the max voltage to .9850v from 1.175 that dropped the full load temp from 90C to 78C, i also uses the auto voltage control and set the minimum voltage at x5 multiplier to .8250v which dropped my idle temp from 50C to 36C.. it now idles at 1ghz and is set so that it will not increase the multiplier unless the cpu usage goes over 85% for more then 300ms.

seriously its one of the best programs to use.. it will give you your minimum voltages required for booting up minimum multiplier allowed/maximum allowed.. take a look at it.. you wont be disappointed..

you can use either tool, these are the two most commonly used for throttling notebooks. NHC has a little friendlier interface though.. if you really know what you're doing you can go for RM.

i had problems with the NHC and turion x2.. for some reason it refused to let me drop the voltage.. but yeah i agree with NHC being a more user friendly gui then RM..

I'd like to use this to limit my voltages, but when i open it there isn't any info in for the CPU tab. it just says N/A like theres not 1 in it at all. how do i do what you did up there? ^^
