Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W (http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTYyMiwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA) - Is that a fully modular kilowatt in your chassis or are you just happy to see me? Thermaltake is back with a 1000 watt computer power supply that has some big shoes to fill after we have seen such great performance out of the previous 1200 watt PSUs from TT.
The Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W represents another example of a CWT PUC based unit that does a mostly excellent job in doing everything a power supply is supposed to do. The Toughpower 1000W has very good voltage regulation, very good efficiency, a large mostly quiet fan, and is partially modular to boot. The only real stumbling block for this unit is the somewhat noisy DC Output Quality but that particular issue is characteristic of every unit based on this platform so it really isn't a reason to discount this unit over another PUC based products.

I'm glad price was taken in to consideration on this one. It's just too much when you can get the 1000HX for much less.

While the price is a factor today... when it was first introduced it was a bargain. I have never had a single regret purchasing this power supply. I've had it for 2 years now and it has never faltered or wavered. At least give this a passing check mark.

That unit is no longer a *stand out* just a mere face in the crowd. I'm glad price was used to gauge it's value as well.

Not bad, but PUCs are starting to get a little too ubiquitous these days. I'd really like to see some new platforms already.

if this psu were reviewed a year or more ago, i'm certain it would have at least won a silver award. i bought two of them for my x38 and 680i builds, and found them to be very competitively priced with other high quality 1000w units on the market at the time

Mhm, definitely seems to get nugded out a bit by the HX1000 on voltage regulation and ripple, and also the price. $50 more than the Corsair on Newegg. (if you count the rebate on that one).

Oops, my bad. Pass!

Yep, price knocked it off the silver. Certainly a good PSU though, I would not hesitate to use one and we still do use the 1200w on all our test systems here.

especially given the two companies histories & customer service ratings!

I've had a thousand watt PSU for over two years now. Have a zeus by silverstone (I think).
It's a long bastard too. Just fits in my Lian Li case. Not one problem.

The Toughpower performs almost identically so I see no reason to call it a loser for anyone. It isn't currently priced well but other than that....

As has been said, the unit is good but for the price there are cheaper alternatives that perform just as well or even better.
Personally, I own two Toughpower 120 watt PSUs which have ran flawlessly (despite a little hiccup with power :p ). I'll stick with them until there is an absolute need to upgrade.

I kind of fail to see what "comapny history" has to do with anything here. Thermaltake was the first brand in the US with the PUC based CWT's 2 years ago. In that 2 years they have introduced not a single unit that I have tested that has failed on me during testing. So you may want to stop living in the past.
As for customer service I have never had an issue that Thermaltake has not cleared up in an appropriate time period with my cooling solutions I have had from them.

Now if they would just lower the price...

It would take a Gold award or something to make me consider a Thermaltake PSU. I just don't trust them. I have never owned one I have just heard bad things, on these very forums.

I use Corsair and TT PSUs personally. Never had issues with either.

i have 2x1200w and 1x1000w (Folding :) ) if i was going to be daft the 1500w one for 4xGTX295s (price between them 3 is only £20 more to me £10 more for each level of PSU)

You probably heard of the crappy Thermaltake Purepower (not the Purepower RX line mind you) line of PSUs. Those Thermaltake PSUs are crappy IMO, especially that 430W model with only 18A on the +12V rail. However, the Thermaltake Purepower RX and Toughpower line of PSUs have been shown to be of at least decent quality.

I wouldn't bother, get the Corsair HX1000 better capacitors and internal built quality, most of ourmembers on evga forums are using it to run their high end systems with out any hiccups

This PSU is essentially identical to the HX1000. There is really nothing performance or quality-wise that would put the Corsair unit over this one. The only differences to consider are price, warranty length, and technical support.
