View Full Version : SATA cables with locking connector questions

I have SATA cables with and without the locking connectors.

Questions:

1.) I have two Velociraptors, one GLFS series and one HLFS series. The locking connector will not latch onto the GLFS one, but it will latch and hold the HLFS one. Is this just because the HLFS drive is newer, or is something wrong or worn out on my GLFS drive?

2.) The locking cables I have have locks on only one end of the cable. I assume that the lock never goes to the motherboard connector?

Thanks!

Anyone?

Would it be normal for a locking SATA connector to not lock onto a GLFS series Velociraptor?

Normal is relative, but if you closely examine the receptacle you may find an answer, clearly there must be something different about the GLFS.

OK, perhaps easier question:

Are there recently made drives that a locking connector won't lock onto?

I finally found some reviews confirming that the WD3000GLFS Velociraptor does not have a connector that will lock onto a modern SATA II cable.

Just posting this in case any one else (other than me) found this to be strange.

I found it odd, considering this is a very recent drive from WD, dating back to last summer.
